Our Lady turned 13 on June 1st. She was dying of old age. She's declined so much this past week, and we just knew it was time, not out of convenience for ourselves, but out of love and mercy for her. I'm grateful the Lord made it clear to all of us just when it was truly the right time, so that we will never have to question that ever. I let our son Zach make the final decision and when he was giving her a bath this evening, and saw her skin infected from not being able to move for the last week, and dragging herself across the floor, and he knew. I'm glad God made it clear to him, because he was really struggling over the decision, and I really felt the decision had to be his. Lady didnˇ¦t have any disease that we know of, she was just gradually dying of old age. She was still eating and drinking fine, but was lame from arthritis, and could no longer move and had to be carried. She was deaf from years of ear infection (she was a cocker spaniel), and blind from cateracts.
But we're all really sad tonight..REALLY sad. Lady came to use when she was 1 year old, and our youngest, Sarah was 2. She was given to us by a good friend of mine since Kindergarten who had a fatal disease, Scleroderma and also Lupus, and she knew she was going to die, and couldnˇ¦t care for Lady anymore. She wanted a good home for her, and it was something I was grateful to have the opportunity to do for her. I have always felt I still had a little bit of my friend Joan, since she passed away when she was 35 years old, and had given birth at 7 months gestation to a baby girl after having gone off all meds so her baby could be born and live. My friend Joan was courageous, and so was our Lady. Lady was a pedigree (Elegant Lady) until we had her spayed. But to US, she was just Sweet Lady Jane.
She was the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful, precious, sweetest, gentle doggie you could ever even ask for. And she was a blessing to all of us. We know she will finally at last no longer be suffering.
Sarah and I are planning to make a scrapbooking frame of her, and to put it on our wall with pictures, the names our family called her ("Sweet Lady", "Lady Jane", "Tubby" (that's Jake's name for her even though she was sticks and bones now), and "Beautiful" (Sarah's name for her). We're going to put pictures and her collar there, and some other memories. We are grateful that one day, we'll think of her and smile continually.
Please pray for our son, Zach. He was the closest of all to her, and decided to go with my husband. I know this is going to be the hardest for him, and my heart is actually most sad for my kids right now. I had wanted to get a paw print of her, but never did .
Love,
Tracy Q.

Oh Tracy, I started to cry the moment I read this because my childhood pet was a Golden Retriever named Lady.
Please know that your whole family will be in our prayers

This is such a hard thing, especially for the children. Losing a good friend is never easy, but it sounds like you made the right decision. Lady is back with
Joan, who will take good care of her for you guys (returning the favor).
Praying for you all, especially Zach.

Oh I am crying for you! How very sad. I am so sorry. Our Bella is getting old too and I dread that day.
Thank you for sharing. I care so much for pets, too. My heart is breaking for your kids. How very sad.
Praying a special prayer of thanksgiving in honor of your family. Thanksgiving for the gift of animals who touch our lives and are created for us to enjoy.
Prayers for peace, too.

Tracy I just saw this today. Praying for you and your family. It's so hard to lose a pet and I pray your loss will eventually leave you with warm memories of a trusted friend. God bless.
