Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sometimes we feel as if we are the only people who 'get' it... and then other times, we feel like we just have SO much more to learn and we'll never get it LOL

This is exactly how I feel sometimes! Its so weird to have no awareness of a dynamic that everyone else is aware of, and then suddenly you figure it out and think, "Ooooooooooooooh, so that's what it is" and then feel very very .

Anyway, my experience tells me that parish involvement has as much to do with the unique dynamic of the parish as it does with your personal choices. And in some places, you can stay for all the socials and sign up for all the committees you want to, and it won't really make you feel as involved as you would in another parish where you don't do as much but there is a more natural sense of community.

I find this to be true. And the reason behind it can vary widely. It might be how involved you are, or it might be if your family's name is on one of the window plaques, or it might be if your children attend the attached parish school, or just how long the community has been established and if they are open to newcomers...I guess its probably weird for converts to protestantism too. They have their own quirks that need to be figured out.
