Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This year, we will be following the life of a spiritually "adopted" (must think of a better term to use for sharing the concept with our adopted son) baby. I am getting very confused with different books/sites counting weeks of pregnancy versus weeks from conception, sometimes mixing both methods in the same resource. Is there a good site doing week by week through pregnancy - pref from date of conception - showing size, development etc? I have googled, and there are soooo many - I wondered if anyone has a favourite one?

Also, does anyone know how I could calculate the baby's due date if we assume conception on the date of the first science lesson? Is it 40 weeks from conception? We want a due date to celebrate with a birthday cake and to send off the funds we have raised to the nuns on that day as a birthday present. Or does that seem wierd?

according to the MayoClinic:

"Weeks 1 and 2: Getting ready
It may seem strange, but you're not actually pregnant the first week or two of the time allotted to your pregnancy. Yes, you read that correctly!

Conception typically occurs about two weeks after your period begins. To calculate your due date, your health care provider will count ahead 40 weeks from the start of your last period. This means your period is counted as part of your pregnancy — even though you weren't pregnant at the time."

I think that pregnancy.org has good, though small pictures to show the kids as our babies grow and I scan to tell them tidbits of info - not every week. They're young.

We 'spiritually adopted' some babies 9 months before Christmas on the Feast of the Annunciation and will buy our babies Christmas presents to be donated.

I have used Baby Center in the past and really liked it. You can sign up for an email update every week about how big the baby is --usually comparing it to a normal item like a bell pepper or an avacodo, etc so that is pretty visual -- what is developing now, how the mother's body is changing etc. Their pictures are illustrations, which is nice and less graphic for little ones, if that is what you would like.

Like what Stephanie said, when someone misses their period and finds out they are pregnant (about 2 weeks after conception) they are already about 4 weeks pregnant. Thus actual pregnancy from date of conception is about 38 WEEKS long. This is based on the generalization that women have 28-day cycles and ovulate on day 14. Obviously this isn't always true, but its the formula that doctors go by.

I think this is a really cool idea!

Thanks ladies. As we are looking at the life of the baby in the womb, we will go with 38 weeks. As I've never been pregnant and always knew I never would, I've never paid much attention to all this sort of thing
