My daughter got bitten by several mosquitoes recently and is now noticing ring-shaped "bulls-eye" type rashes around the original sites. Has anyone seen anything like this?
She does not think it could be ticks because there are several affected areas, not just one, and they are mostly on her upper body and arms. She is quite tall and wasn't crawling through any long grasses. She can't imagine having been bitten by that many ticks and not noticing it.
Also, she has not (yet) noticed any symptoms besides localized itching.
I read that you could put a baking soda paste on the itching areas as an antihistamine and antiobiotic, so we are going to try that.
But has anyone had a similar experience with mosquito bites? Could it have been a spider? Any remedies or advice for treatment?
Can you get Lyme disease from mosquitoes? All the websites I could find that said you could had a weirdo feeling to them. But I'm wondering.

I don't know about the Lyme's but I do know that regular paste toothpaste works well for bee stings similar to a baking soda paste and much easier to carry with you

Could it be ringworm? I recall something similar happening years ago to my dd. Lotramin (spelling?) cured it. I had taken her to the local pharmacist who looked at it and said it was probably ringworm. An anti-fungal was the answer. I don't know...
God bless,
Christine

Willa, the American Lyme Disease Foundation website only lists deer ticks as carriers of lyme disease.
Another site mentioned an abundance of mosquitos relates to the abundance of ticks in an area. Most of the info everywhere else did list fleas and mosquitos as carriers, but I wouldn't consider any of it reliable (from a medical website answered by a dr).

cecilia had a bite like that recently - the girls found a bug that looked like the one who bit her (I did not see the original bug). It looked like a mosquito but about 3-4 times bigger.
Cecilia also developed full body hives. Doc said nothing to worry about. 1- days later, the red center is still there but the ring went down over night.

My 7yods gets a large wheal around every mosquito bite, but it isn't a perfect circle. The wheals are raised, usually whitish with red around them, rather large (some have been an inch or more in diameter,) and very itchy. He is the only one out of our 6 who get this.
He usually requires many dabs of the Benadryl itch relief stick or lots of blottings with caladryl. But they generally go down in a day.
Ringworm, as Christine mentioned, might be it. It is itchy, too. I have a different ds who had that, but for him, it was just on his lower legs. The lotrimen worked great, but does take a little while to clear, and the doc said to keep applying for a few days after the rash is completely gone.
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

My dd gets that from mosquito bites occassionally. I was scared the first time I saw that bullseye, but her ped looked at it and confirmed it was just a mosquito bite. Now when she get a mosquito bite I pull out the cortisone cream (just the mildest one, I think .5%) and apply it a couple times a day and it seems to make a big difference.

If it's either ringworm or insect bites, tea tree oil is great.

Two of my dds get this from almost every mosquito bite they get. Dh says it's a localized immune response to the bite, definitely not Lyme disease or ringworm (my thoughts when the girls showed them to me). It gets worse from scratching. We've used hydorcortisone cream, lavender oil; to reduce the itching I've told them to slap the area when the itch is driving them crazy . Just out of curiousity, are your children very fair? The dds with this problem are both blonde and have very fair skin.
Peace,
Nancy

Nancy,
Yes, my daughter is very fair.... not blonde, but has a Celtic complexion. Also, we were traveling when she got the bites. I read that you can have an immune response to mosquitoes outside your local area.
Thanks so much for the experience and advice, ladies. The pattern does sound a whole lot like a reaction to mosquito bites. I thought ringworm for a moment when she showed me the rings, because my son had it once, but it looks different, -- larger (half dollar area or more) and not scaly. Much more like an allergic response, but the ring shape alarmed me a bit.
Thanks so much again for the great information!

My dd is fair as well. Also, she got this reaction from mosquitoes that bit her while we were vacationing...interesting.
