Can anyone help me with this?
"The Plenary Indulgence will likewise be granted to the elderly, the sick and all those who for any legitimate reason are confined to their homes who, with a mind detached from any sin and with the intention of fulfilling as soon as possible the three usual conditions, at home or wherever their impediment detains them, provided that on the above-mentioned days they recite prayers for the sanctification of priests and confidently offer the illnesses and hardships of their lives to God through Mary Queen of Apostles. "
I'm just having troubles understanding what's in bold..what are the three usual conditions..mass,confession, prayers for the Holy Father? I just find the whole paragraph hard to grasp {probably more poor brain} in general...

Anne, going back to the with the first part of the decree:
Quote:
(B) All truly penitent Christian faithful who, in church or oratory, devotedly attend Holy Mass and offer prayers to Jesus Christ, supreme and eternal Priest, for the priests of the Church, or perform any good work to sanctify and mould them to His Heart, are granted Plenary Indulgence, on the condition that they have expiated their sins through Sacramental Confession and prayed in accordance with the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. This may be done on the opening and closing days of the Year of Priests, on the 150th anniversary of the death of St. Jean Marie Vianney, on the first Thursday of the month, or on any other day established by the ordinaries of particular places for the good of the faithful. |

The indulgenced act is going to Mass on this day.
The Enchiridion of Indulgences explains the norms and the 3 requirements which are standard in all plenary indulgences
Quote:
23.
1. Beside the exclusion of all attachment to sin, even venial sin, the requirements for gaining a plenary indulgence are the performance of the indulgenced work and fulfillment of three conditions: sacramental confession, eucharistic communion, and prayer for the pope's intentions.
2. Several plenary indulgences may be gained on the basis of a single sacramental confession; only one may be gained, however, on the basis of a single eucharistic communion and prayer for the pope's intentions.
3. The three conditions may be carried out several days preceding or following performance of the prescribed work. But it is more fitting that the communion and the prayer for the pope's intentions take place on the day the work is performed.
4. If a person is not fully disposed or if the prescribed work and the three mentioned conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence will only be partial; the prescriptions in N. 27 and N. 28 for those impeded are exceptions.
5. The condition requiring prayer for the pope's intentions is satisfied by reciting once the Our Father and Hail Mary for his intentions; nevertheless all the faithful have the option of reciting any other prayer suited to their own piety and devotion. [15] |

I would think it means not only those confined to home, but other circumstances: perhaps a sick bed in the hospital, a nursing home, in a military operation, sick but in a transport en route to another location.

Probably a silly sort of question, but every time I read "prayer for the pope's intentions" I'm not sure whether it means:
(1) pray for the intentions the pope wants prayed for, usually listed monthly in our disocesan (spelling?) newspaper; or (2) pray for the intention of the pope personally (like pray that he enjoy good health, etc.) Don't know why, but I seem to over think the notion of "the pope's intentions" to the point where I don't know what it means.
Peace,
Nancy

I would assume given the phrasing "satisfied by reciting once the Our Father and Hail Mary for his intentions" that we are to pray for what the Pope prays for.
In any case adding some extra prayers for his personal wellbeing sounds like a great idea.
