Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was trying to find a Macbeth movie at the library when I stumbled upon Shakespeare: The Animated Tales. Has anyone seen them? What do you think?

Hi Gwen,

I haven't seen them but I'd be interested in hearing about them. We usually read a synopsis of the play in Lamb or Nesbitt, and then view a video production (unless we can find a live play!) and then read through at least some of the play in an edition that has footnotes and definitions for some of the difficult words/passages.

God bless,

Patty

I checked it out Patty and we plan to watch Macbeth. I also plan to read the Lamb's version before next Wed. when we begin reading the play with another family of middle and high schoolers. I sure hope the play will come around in the near future. In the meantime I plan to watch the movie after we read the play. I'll post back here after we watch.

Although I haven't seen the set, I'm wondering if the "Twelfth Night" and "Macbeth" that we've bought individually aren't from this same producer. I don't have access to my copies at this moment, but I *do* remember something about "Twelfth Night" being Russian animation. Hmmmmm. If it is the same film, then they're great. Yes, they're truncated somewhat---they don't do the plays in their entirety, adjusting them to some degree for children---but they're far from being dumbed down. They include much of the original dialogue, and are artful. The "MacBeth" version we have (if it's the same one, and I suspect it is) achieves the same brooding, ominous ambience as the play, and we loved "Twelfth Night".

We watched a few of them and did not really care for them. The animation was just too too cheesy for my kids.We ended up sending them back (to Netflix)without even watching them all.
