Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you use with your 6th, 7th, 8th grader for religion?
We had used Faith and Life for FHC and learned a lot and we enjoyed it. Ds got tired of the spiraling and kept saying, "I know this," when doing 3rd grade.
Last year we were going through the Baltimore Catechism.
This year we have some preteen attitude, questions (good ones), and I am lost as to what to do with this child. Short of meeting with Father once a month and collecting questions for them to discuss.
I didn't care for the Prove It series--not yet. So, what can you all offer that would be fun. Or maybe you know of somewhat interesting reading that leads to discussion. And I also want to start to work confirmation prep.
I am trying to get him involved in service in the church and community more. I just need to feed his brain and am at a loss.
Thanks in advance,
Anne

Have you used Baltimore Catechism #3 (which Seton sells)? My early teens really liked this one for its post lesson questions. Our favorite: Giles is murdered by a Communist just as he leaves the church after his confession. Giles has been away from the church for 28 years. He just about satisfied the requirements for a good confession, having only imperfect contrition, aroused during this week's mission. The Communist demanded to know if Giles was a Catholic, threatening to kill him if he was. Fearlessly, Giles said:"Yes, thank God!" Did Giles go immediately to heaven,or did he go to purgatory for a while? (Heaven, of course ) We still quote Giles eigth years after first "meeting" him.

We studied bible history last year (bought at Seton), and this year (7th grade) we are doing Seton Confirmation prep and Seton Religion FYC 7. We attend a CGS Atrium weekly, and my dh does a fun Catechism lesson on Sunday nights. For service, we make lunches and drive around finding homeless people to give them to. The kids decorate the lunch bags, and make "holy cards" on index cards to put in each one.

Doesn't really fall in the religion category, but have you checked out the All Things Guy book? We have the All Things Girl series, by the same authors, and just loved them.

Lynn,
All Things Guy looks great. Thanks for that suggestion.

Take a look at Baltimore Catchism 4. It is 1 & 2 with an explanation and if you google it, you'll find it free online. It's very interesting-can't believe I missed it all these years.

We've gone through BC2, so I plan on going through BC4 in 6th-7th along with St. Patrick's Summer, King of the Golden City and other such books. I did read them aloud years ago, but at that age they only catch the superficial layer. I also save Young Faces of Holiness for this age and we will do a scripture study too.
