This is not meant as a political post. It is simply meant as a heads up for the rest of you moms, who may not be aware of what this pending legislation will do...
HR 2749, Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, is one of 'those' bits of legislation that sounds good, but hits below the belt. While trying to make sure that our food supply is safer from E Coli, Melamine, Salmonella, etc, contamination, the law as it stands will effectively shut down all the farm stands, farmers markets, and small producers of food products here in the US. Increased fees for everything from permits, to licensing, etc, will hobble to small, local markets, and restrict the food supply to the large producers (who are in large part the ones to blame for the messes we've had in the last few years!) only...because they are the only ones who can afford to produce anymore...

This was voted on yesterday, under "suspension" rules, where it failed to pass, missing the needed supermajority by 10 votes. Today, Pelosi and company plan to shove it down our throats again, this time under standard rules, where all it needs is a simple majority. PLEASE get on the phone, email, whatever, to your representatives and let them know how you feel about it.

This would also make raw milk illegal, for those who drink it, buy it, produce it, etc. (thought I ought to add that, lol)..
