Hi Moms~
You know...being a mom...and being sick...is hard. I'm the only one who is sick right now...but it is a TERRIBLE cold.
I am taking probably 1500-2000mgs of vitamin C.
I feel wretched...mostly head cold, but with all the drainage, it is settling in my chest with coughing.
I am taking benadryl at night to "dry up" the mucus, which is what our ped recommends for our children, and our ped is very holistic...
but is there something else I should do? or not do?
My poor kids are stir crazy (behavior is atrocious), but I can't take them to the usual fun places without infecting everyone else, kwim? And I feel rotten.
Maggie

a pineapple smoothie with ginger (fresh grated)
Or caps of bromelain and ginger from the health food store
They help reduce the swelling that contributes to the stuffiness and ginger is an anti-viral helping you get over the cold faster.
and good old chicken soup really does work
and lemon juice and honey (hot or cold lemonade for instance or in a tea) will help sooth the throat and cough.. the lemon juice soothes the throat and honey is a natural antibiotic.

Wouldn't you know...we just bought a fresh, organic pineapple a couple days ago...and ginger is a staple in this house.
Awesome! Thanks!
Will do on the Chix soup and honey and lemon...

Maggie,
I take Sambucal, Vit C and Echinacea at the first sign of illness. For congestion, I use Nettle Leaf and Robitussin.

Don't forget good old garlic! (Although, I'm one to talk. I always do! )
Also, try coconut oil as it's an immune booster, as well as Vit. A and Zinc.
Here's an article about how to make garlic based GOOT (whatever GOOT is) using garlic, coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil:
