If I had a blog, this is what I'd write today:
I know this happens all the time and it barely hits the RADAR screen, but today is the first day of school for my firstborn. Of course, he's not a five year old getting on a big yellow bus. He's 17. He's taking two dual-enrollment courses at a community college. He's taken homeschool art classes for years, apologetics and Latin at church, and has a tutor for Spanish, but this is the first time he's going to a "real school." And since he has all those other things going too, he will hardly be here at all this spring. An era in my life is certainly over. The days of all of us huddled together on a project are gone (except for snow days ). But it is time and I don't really feel terribly melancholy about it (maybe that's because I've spent the last 18 months or so in a state of perpetual mourning and it was time to move on.)
Or, maybe it's because today is my 40th birthday and I discovered that all my forty-something friends were right: it is just another day . What a relief!

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth !!!
Nearly five years ago, I, too, hit 40. The day was like any other.....six months later was a different story . I guess it took that long to sink in. But that day, too, soon passed. Now, I don't even think about it. I love being my age !!!

Happy Brithday.
It is the 3's and 8's that hit hard here.
33, 38, 43.
Maybe I should start planning for 48, something to get over the hump.

Happy Birthday!
I have this vision of you driving your firstborn to school, holding his hand as you walk through those doors, asking him 12 times if he has his lunch, fussing with the buttons on his sweater, and then hanging around the classroom door trying to hear if he was crying or not!!
Oh wait-
It's COLLEGE!
He'll probaby buy his lunch.

Actually... there's a certain lovely ballerina (whose illustrations are prominently featured in Real Learning) who is also going to school for the first time tomorrow. And she's in Michael's class. He's driving her to our house for lunch after their Biology class and then on to church for their apologetics class. See? This side of forty has the potential to be really fun .
And this is part of why I don't blog. I just blabbed Michael's social life to nearly five hundred people...

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day.
I think that these two happenings occurring on the same day is very cool....I love it when things happen that way.
Best Wishes!

Ah, yes, but who better to blab to? Of course, we all know some people to tell and with some of our numbers in other countries and other continents -- your first-borm may disown you, birthday or no
(BTW, I had my youngest at 41 - 40 was cake-walk compared to that!)

Happy Birthday, fellow-1966-buddy.
It was a great year, wasn't it?

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth. I am 5 days older than you, so come to me any time you need advice (LOL).
As for all you 1966 buddies, I did have a rude awakening the day before my birthday. The commercial came on TV announcing: "Were you born between the years 1921 and 1966?" It turns out that we are now eligible for "Silver Care" .

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth! Funny, everyone said 40 would be so hard. I turned the big 4-0 in November and I don't feel any different!
Blessings,
Lisa
