Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yikes. My dh & I have been asked to teach the post-confirmation RE class this year. We have to develop the course content ourselves. The vision from the education committee is a lot of meaty adult topics with outside speakers, field trips, movies, etc. Our class is about 15 kids.

Do any of you have ideas for resources? I'm not sure where to start, and I'm afraid that I'm out of my league with the older kids. My oldest is only 7. I'm not sure what to do with teenagers.

I have to laugh at our situation. I asked to develop a kindergarten class which I could have done in my sleep.

Thank you for ANY suggestions or ideas.

well my oldest is only 12 but she's post confirmation..

I think I'd look at the particular challenges your students will be dealing with.. chastity or those challenging their faith (great time to start appologetics I would think)..

Why not ask the parents for the single biggest issue they think their kids need to learn.. That might give you a more individual idea of what should be covered.. and after that you go looking for speakers and field trips etc.

Maybe something on discerning your vocation in life? Have some really great people come in to talk about their vocations -- including, of course, marriage and family. How to live out any vocation?

Or perhaps a study of the virtues a la Kreeft's book? Focusing on developing virtues rather than just avoiding sins?

A more mature approach to apologetics than they had earlier?

Just some ideas.....

In Christ,
