Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Did anyone get started yet? With a baby due in Oct I figured I better get on the ball early this year. I have a plan and have bought some materials. Once I finish up the napkins I am working on I will be getting to work

I haven't gotten started yet with the actual production of what I want to make but I've certainly got my list of going!

I would like to make at least one thing for each person this year. I know for sure that I'll be making my pumpkin breads for almost everyone and adoring them with some kind of ornament for the Christmas tree. So I should figure out what ornament I want to make and start making them!

As this baby is due only a few days after Christmas I really would like to have all my Christmas stuff complete by the beginning of December. One so I can fully enter into the Advent season focusing on the birth of our little one with no worries of the Christmas "bustle". I'm also going to have to really focus on "letting go" of some things...I think the end of this pregnancy will really turn my thoughts to the real Reason for the Season in a way that I've WANTED to in the past but haven't quite got there before.

What crafts are you planning on doing?

I would love to see lists of what you are working on - and especially LINKS or pictures!

It seems there are usually a few *new* ideas I find each year and haven't really searched much yet, but would love it if someone found THE perfect craft gift for me!

I have made up a bunch of salsa and have it in the freezer, I think I"ll give a small jar and some homemade tortillia chips as little gifts...

What ideas do you all have so far??

I have a baby due in October too and I'm hoping to have the bulk of gifts done by then.

I finished a quilt for my grandparents earlier this month. I plan on making a table runner or place mats with the scraps for my MIL and her husband.

I finished knitting a hat that was intended for my brother, but it's too small for a grown man, so it will be for one of my boys instead. Working on another hat.

I plan on making dolls for my 2 and 4 yo. Thinking about a quilt for my 8yo.

Needing to figure out what I can knit/sew for my grandma, parents, and FIL & wife.

Last year for Christmas I knit up a bunch of wash clothes and paired them with homemade soap I bought from an Etsy shop. Everyone I gave them to loved them! This year I would like to try figure out how to make my own soap....although I'm not sure if I will or not.

What about a homemade sugar scrub put in mason jars with a homemade wash cloth?

Here's a "quilted" Christmas ball ornament that should be fairly easy to do.

Here is my list. To me, the stuff seems kind of boring, but it is important to me to make things as opposed to just buying them.

DD#1 bday (early Nov)--sunbonnet
DD#1 Christmas--Christmas nightgown, robe, 2 pillowcases made with religious fabric
DD#2--Christmas nightgown, 2 pillowcases with religious fabric, and something else that I haven't decided on yet
baby--not sure if I will make anything. If I have time maybe some crocheted toys or soft blocks
DD#1 godparents--reusable grocery bags that will be decorated by DD#1
DD#2 godparents--placemats
DC#3 godparents--napkins
DH--I would love to make him some comfy flannel pjs, but will only do it if I have time
niece and nephew--robes
mom and stepdad--placemats and napkins
dad--placemats and napkins
Catechism teacher--knotted Rosary

I also plan to make a couple of nice dresses for the girls, one of the dresses being for their Christmas pictures. I might make something for the baby as well for the Christmas pics. I will also be making the girls some nightgowns.

I have too much planned

No it's not hard at all! All I do is cast on 3 stitches...then each row after that knit 1; add on one stitch using the yarn over; then knit to the end of the row. After there's about 43 stitches on the needle I knit one row even. Then just knit 1 knit 2 together knit the rest of the row until the last 2 stitches are left on the needle and cast off.

I buy the sugar n' cream yarns at Joann or AC Moore and those make up 1 wash cloth with enough left over for a baby hat which I knit up and donate to Church for our annual baby shower.

Beth, I love the idea of placemats and napkins. Are you using a pattern from somewhere or making up your own design? I think these would be great for my parents; sister and sister-in-law.

A very dear friend of mine gave me some lovely Christmas napkins last year as a gift - she was kind enough to tell me to open the gift before Christmas dinner!

She used lovely Christmas material, serged the edges of what was essentially a large circle. It was pressed in half, then folded 3 more times so that it ended up looking like a Christmas tree. It was so lovely and looked so pretty on the table!

I wish I knew how to describe the folds better, but I thought it was such a thoughtful gift and since you all are brainstorming in July...thought I'd throw it out there.

I found them!!!

Cactus mouse,
I am a brand new knitter and think this is a great idea. I think I can do this, can't wait to try! You mentioned the sugar n' cream yard, I'll going to look for that. Is it a type of yard (acryllic, etc... that you recoend for washclothes?

Here's the sugarn' cream website so you can get an idea of what it looks like. They have TONS of different colors available (although it doesn't look as if they show a whole bunch on the site).

A few weeks ago AC Moore had a sale...99cents per skein! I picked up a bunch of them.

For wash cloths I'd recommend 100% cotton, that's what I use. It works great!

For the napkins I take two 18" squares of complementary fabrics, sew right sides together leaving about 4 inches unsewn in order to turn them. Clip the corners, turn, press and topstitch. Using 2 pieces of fabric makes a nice sturdy napkin. Last year the 2 sets of godparents got tablecloths and napkins. I made the tablecloths the same way I made the napkins, allowing for 4" of overhang. Unfortunately, the fabric seems to have shrunk more, so they don't have 4" of overhang. I should have washed the fabric a couple of times. After a year of decent use (I see it on the table fairly often), the tablecloths and napkins have held up well

For the placemats I am using this pattern. I just started on my first set this afternoon. I have the 6 fused and now I will just need to stitch them up. I will report back on how they turn out.

I got the last of my patterns today, so I am all set. My sister from MI is coming out to take my nephew to the LL World Series at the end of Aug. I hope to have all the MI presents done by then so she can just take them back with her....we will see how that goes

What great ideas! I'm going to knit some cute washcloths for my SILs. Does anyone have a good recipe for salt scrubs? I might do the napkins and placemats for my inlaws.
