Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am a rather novice seamstress. Does any of you crafty ladies have an inspired idea about how I make a wimple for an 18" doll?

I thought of using a finely knit white sock, but I'm not sure how I would finish around the cutout for the face.

A simple medieval wimple consisted of three pieces. A long oval veil that goes on the top of the head--usually black. A simple fabric circlet that can go over or under the veil. A square cloth piece that is pinned to the circlet at the temples so that it drapes under the chin, covering the neck.

Later on, you find things like winter ski masks--what are they called? full nelsons? but without the eyeholes and material covering the face--but made of linen. Then several other pieces are layered to make a variety of wimple styles. They get pretty complicated with wires and pleating and such after that.
