Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this program?

I saw that it is listed in the approved catechesis materials on the USCCB site. I am particularly interested in the FaithFirst videos to augment our studies as I've already purchased the Faith & Life set for fourth grade.

Here is a link to a study guide that goes with the video - it looks very promising. I would love to hear of anyone's experiences with this program. Faith First Video

I've been in two parishes that used it. In my opinion, it is subpar. It needs a lot of supplementation. Like many programs, it dances around the content of the catechism, the reading level is very low (stories from Scripture are unbelievably simplified) and each chapter is filled with a lot of fluff (crosswords, color-the-butterfly, etc.).

However, I have never seen the videos you are speaking of. Based on my familiarity with the FF textbooks though, I would not get my hopes too high that the videos were much better. Sorry. :(

Our old parish used Faith First, and I wasn't all that impressed. It was very basic and lots of "fluff."

God bless,
Christine

thank you all for your replies and comments on this program. I think I'll let this one go.

Can anyone recommend any other videos to use to supplement the Faith & Life materials? My daughter is very auditory and has a relating/inspiring disposition. Listening to or watching concepts being acted out really help her to understand and retain what she is being taught.

Thanks!

We had fun listening to the Cat Chat CD's.
Also, while a little dry Fr. Antoine (from EWTN Childrens Adoration) has some videos which, for my kids, worked well in small pieces. We saw him in person a few times and that helped them a lot.
If I think of any more I'll try to remember to come back and list them. Those were the hit's for the year here.

I'll second Cat Chat
It seems like one is always playing at our house!
Maybe the folks at Catholic Familyland have some resources? I think I saw some video there? I'm sure EWTN would have something?
I'll try to think of others...

God bless,
Christine

The catechetical program "Faith in the Heart" is really good - I've seen it on EWTN on occassion and intend to purchase the entire series... one of these days! Nothing flashy, but quite substantial. It's produced by EWTN and features instruction by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and covers grades one through five on five dvd's, $20 each. You can purchase the entire set for $90 with free shipping from the Catholic Family Catalog Website.
