My dd has not had any formal handwriting instruction, but she can form most capital and some lowercase letters. Some of them are not formed correctly. I'd like to use a handwriting program with her next year. Any suggestions?

We were in the same boat last year, and opted for Handwriting Without Tears. We've been very happy with it. You could just buy a workbook, a slate, and some chalk- you don't really need the teacher instruction manuals. It's all pretty self-explanatory.
My dd's wrongly formed letters were easily and painlessly corrected using this program. She really enjoys it. I've noticed that she now forms all of her letters correctly, regardless of what she's writing (a letter, a list, a story, etc). So it works!

I love this program! I am in the process of correcting my nearly 6o's improperly formed letters. This really hammers it home. I adore the letter pieces and mat. It is extra, but imo so worth it, because it really cements in their head which stroke comes first and that you always start at the top left, but it makes it fun. Very hands on! And, it keeps my 3 y/o busy while we work with the pencil and block sheets! And, he is begining to understand where to start, and what stroke comes first, so we should have a head start when we begin print! :) The block paper helped my older son with size uniformity too, so I say get that too. :)

Can someone let me know how the letters in HWOT are formed? Do they form all letters using the "ball and stick" approach?
If so, does this bother you?
I'm thinking more aesthetically here...but how "aesthetic" can I get considering my daughter is 4.
God Bless,

Another fan of HWOT here! I really like their letter formation, it makes so much sense to kids, especially the "magic c".
I don't know why but I really, really dislike the ball and stick approach. It just seems very unnatural.
