Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I haven't read for myself in quite awhile...I have read books for my teens and such but...
I want to get lost in a book. I want to find a book that I just can't put down and end up finishing with a sigh of satisfaction. I want to be distracted. Can anyone recommend anything?? I'm needing mommy-nurturing...

Hi Donna Marie,
I accidentally stumbled into a really enjoyable story when I chose this book from a myriad of other sleazy titles in an airport bookstore. I was desperate for something to read on a 3 hour flight and really didn't want a modern story. Well I think my guardian angel picked this one for me. There is so much to recommend in it!
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

It's set just after WWII and deals with how some Englanders endured hardships during the war (and THAT has to do with literature ) and getting over what happened. Ultimately, it's a hopeful story. I don't want to say too much, but it was really nice, charming.

Historical Fiction:
Mistress of the Revolution was GREAT!
Katherine, by Anya Seton
....both "heavier" but page-turners!

Same here--it fits what you're looking for perfectly, I think.

Everything else I've read recently has been kinda heavy or depressing, honestly. But when I need a nice mommy-culture type of read, I often go for a Jane Austen reread. Works every time!

I just read Persuasion by Jane Austen for the first time and would find myself thinking about it during the day and even sneaking off to read as I got to the end.

Also, have you read the Mitford series? It has been years since I read it, but it was one of those stories you can't put down and you grow to love the characters.

I put Guernsey on hold, but I am eighth in line! Apparently, everyone has heard of this book but me.
