Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm having a difficult time finding a sturdy headband that isn't little-girly. I have very thick hair that hangs about to the middle of my back and I like my hair swept off my face in a classic look, but I only have 1 headband that will hold my hair back. All the plastic ones I've purchased at Walmart or like stores snap easily or aren't strong enough for my tough as nails Mexican/Indian hair genes.

Any ideas?

Do a search on Etsy.com. They have many (a search for "headband" produced over 700 items). I've purchased from this store and have enjoyed them for my girls. I could've used an extra inch on the adult size to make them more comfortable for me, but my eldest dd found the adult size more comfortable for her and so they have not gone to waste.

There are many nice-looking ones here as well.

tznius sells a wide headband that is designed to be opened fully to be used as a head covering, but I have found them to be the most comfortable headbands I have ever worn (I think I got the idea on an old blog entry of Suzanne's??). I just fold them to the width that looks nice.

Both sites, etsy and tznius look great, thank you. I see tznius has snoods as well.

Oh my goodness.....Tznius has so many more great colors and designs now, than when I got mine a few years ago!!!! They must be a hit and she's been able to carry more!!!!     The Black-White, Solid, and 25 colors under "Long Headbands"!!!! They are all the same, btw....she's just giving them different names.

These are great. I like them for a different reason.....I have a really small head, so the bulk of all the fabric adds to my pea-head ..Stupid, I know....but it makes a difference.

Jewish women who cover also have a band that they use as a base layer, and I've used those for headbands too. I'll look later and see if I can find a link.

A funny story....when I was in labor with baby #2, I had my hair UP with a clip in back, but I was getting ready to lean back and didn't want it in anymore, so I asked (in between groans) for a headband. So my husband couldn't find the Tznius one that was "somewhere" in the living room, so he went in the bedroom and got a non-Tznius headband. He started to put it over my head, and I GRABBED it from him and whipped it over my shoulder, and said, "no, not THAT one.....the GOOD ones.....I HAVE to have a GOOD ONE!" I meant a Tznius one. He had NO IDEA WHAT I was talking about

I knew it was you I learned about them from!    I'm pretty sure it was the same post that inspired me to try a wrap skirt and I decided to throw a head band on the order since it didn't affect shipping.

What's funny to me is that I am tall, and I have a hard time wearing headbands from regular stores because they are too tight and start sliding up the back of my neck. I guess they work for the smaller and larger folks.

I'd love to see the link for the other headbands you are talking about, Suzanne.

It's not the Jewish women, it's the muslim women ....Oops!
It's this design: Cotton headband with forehead cover. There is not the elastic at the base of the neck, like with the Tznius ones, so not as stretchy, but for some reason they stay put really well. They wear these completely covering their hairline at the front of the head, but I wear it back on my head. They are a bit big for me (cuz of that small head) and sometimes clip it, but if you have a bigger head and bigger crazier hair than me, I'm imagining they'd stay better. It LOOKS LIKE a kerchief, without the hassle of tying it.    Again, I'd say not as well-anchored as the ones with elastic, but worth looking into.

And, Books...the Tznius ones are a bit big for me, in a perfect world I'd want them a bit smaller, but they stay on anyway.
