Hi there,

I'll have a Kindergartener this year and will be using mostly Montessori with her, especially for language and math. I'm trying to get my hands on some pink, blue, and green language materials, preferably ones with photos. I love Lori's, but the cost of printer ink, or getting them printed, would make them so expensive. One cartridge here costs me more than $50, and doesn't last long. Laminating is an additional $1+ per sheet.

Any ideas for ones that come pre-printed? I could possibly replace my poor, dead laminator if needed, but can't ship ink (it's prohibited). I don't mind cutting.

Thanks for your ideas.

Do you have a place near you that can refill ink cartridges? Sometimes there can be a few areas here and there on a printout that aren't absolutely perfect, but nothing I have found to be bad quality-wise. Here I can get my black ink refilled for $10. and colored ink for $15. at our local Walgreens. You can also get remanufactured ink from many stores including Laser Monks..although you just said that you couldn't ship ink...hmmm...

...can you guess what I am spending my July doing?? ...printing Montessori materials and as much as the budget allows. If I can only do a handful, I will definitely print out as much Catholic materials as I can. I feel the faith needs to be beautiful. The rest can be sharpie-colored index cards if need be

I have made a ton of nicely printed language materials with just my trusty colored sharpie collection and index cards, so that may be an option for you. And some charts I have just printed out on regular paper and placed in a special binder in page protectors. I have made some worksheet-like work reusable this way.

I find that I really don't need to laminate index cards so I have a hefty collection of many colors on hand. If I need something to be more durable, I have used clear packing tape and clear contact paper on occasion...(I make my materials at night so I don't have a sticky mess that can be created by eager young hands)but hey, I am just thinking out loud here... I made a lot of language material pictures cutting up old workbooks and pasting the pictures on cereal box cardboard using a spray adhesive...I got a lot done at once that way....

don't know if my rambling helps much...but FWIW, you can do a lot creatively and it can still come out looking very nice!

Yes, maybe I should plan on going the home made route, perhaps with some language objects instead of the lovely color photographs. I'll have to consider that as I can ship paper and index cards!

No ink refilling here. Lovely weather, but not much on the shopping front....

I *think* Lori made the pink, blue, and green series that Alison's Montessori carries. I don't know if they ship to Suriname. Not sure on cost. I'll try to find the link.

Alison's pink series

For $12 more, they will print on glossy card stock? Not sure if that means laminated. And don't know shipping details.

Just a thought on the laminating - I bought a Duck laminator for $25 at Walmart. I buy 8 1/2 x 11 pouches at Staples, 100 pouches for $50. That's only 50 cents a sheet - and if you use Staples coupons from the Sunday paper you can pay even less, so you can definitely laminate for far less than a dollar a sheet.

There are a few places selling printed (and even laminated) stuff - like Montessori 123 - but because they have to allow for their own time spent making them, and shipping as well, it's almost always cheaper to print and laminate it yourself.

Yes, I made Alison's Pink, Blue, and Green Series set. I don't know if having them print it is cheaper than printing it yourself - keep in mind the shipping cost as well. If it doesn't say "laminated" then it's not.

Thanks guys! I'll check out Alison's. I can ship here without paying international shipping, but some items are restricted - like printer ink! I may replace my laminator but the ink is a killer.

I really appreciate your ideas.

I wonder what it would cost to have someone print things out for you and ship them, just charging for the printing (ink, paper, etc) and shipping?

Thanks for all the help, ladies. Ii think $12 is definitely cheaper than I can print so I feel that is a reasonable extra charge from Alison's, and I really like Lori's material the best. I looked at Montessori 123 but it is so unclear what is included that I am hesitant to go that route. I really hate that on a website, don't you? For example the cards and language object sets have no indication as to how many are included.

Of course I also saw that Alison's has some wonderful color-coded wooden card holder boxes for the pink/blue/green work. Is it bad to drool on a computer keyboard....
