Okay, so I got a screaming deal on a bunch of hormone free chicken parts. I have done a few OAMC recipes but I have one more batch left and I need ideas!

Do you have a favorite freeze ahead recipe? They are bone-in drumsticks and thighs. Ideally, it would be something I didn't have to cook before freezing but I'm open to that too.

Chicken tends to dry out in the freezer, so I like to freeze the thighs in some sort of soy/terriyaki marinade sauce in a ziploc bag. Thaw in the frig overnight and it will marinate itself. Then bake! Super easy! You could probably use other marinades, too.

Chicken and Olives

~3lbs bone in chicken parts, skin removed
1 diced onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1tsp basil
1tsp oregano
1TBS parsley
1tsp salt
28oz canned, diced tomatoes
1/2C wine (red or white)
1C black olives

Put every thing in a big ziplock and freeze. When you are ready to eat, dump it in the slow cooker, cook on low for 8-10 hours and serve over noodles, rice or mashed potatoes.

Please forgive me if this seems an impertinent attempt to rain on your parade, but are the chicken parts antibiotic free?

I just ask because it is actually illegal to use "hormones" in growing chickens, but some chicken companies put "hormone free" on the package to sell it. Beef is significant as to whether it is hormone free, and a lot of people get it confused. A chicken that is labeled hormone free is no different from one not labeled at all.

Now, if the package also says, "antibiotic free" then it is a significant difference from conventiionally grown poultry.

well it's definately possible to use a lot of emoticons in one post

We like chicken on the grill so I would probably just package them up plain.. as long as they're well wrapped and as much air is out as possible they should be fine.

And then you can grill them with bbq sauce or one of the other sauces you can buy nowadays that you don't necessarily want to marinate them in.. sauces can burn faster than chicken can cook if you're not careful so doing some cooking before adding the sauce helps that

But then I'm not one for limiting my options.. I like frozen meat portioned out into things I can use but decide on the particular flavor the night I cook them.

I don't cook a lot with pieces. When I freeze chicken, it is usually cooked already and plain so I can toss it in soup, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc... Sorry, I'm boring. It would be easy to just dump it all in the crockpot and cook it. Then, you can pull the meat off, stick the bones back in the crockpot, cover with water, add veggies, and make stock.

That's what I'd do anyway.

And I'm way more excited for you know that I know it was antibiotic free if that makes you feel good
