Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Since we're back after a two week break, I decided to start a bit slow with a mini-unit on Winnie-the-Pooh and AAMilne. I found a wonderful book at the library -- Three Cheers for Pooh that is a wonderful resource for me and has great illustrations and tidbits to share with the kids. Today we went through about half of it while I interwove the reading of Sibley's book with readings from When We Were Very Young -- Milne's first book of "children's" poetry -- and started in to read Winnie the Pooh - the first of the two exclusive Pooh books. I so like Ernest Shepard's drawings (so much nicer than Disney's sacchrine-based drawings!).

Milne is a fascinating character -- wrote some really great essays that were compiled in books (as well as the dialogue for a dramatization of Wind in the Willows). Pretty cool, eh?

We have a small unit at HSS

Winnie the Pooh and Some Bees

You may find some ideas there. Of course, I would love to add to it if Mary would like to share her ideas and give me permission! :-)

A Pooh Unit would be tons of fun!
