Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't know why, but narration sounds like this great idea that is secretly very complicated and rife with opportunity for me as teacher to mess it up.

I'm trying to keep a list of books my 7-year-old has read independently. We just got a new bunch of library books and he said he'd read one of them all the way through by himself. I don't remember the exact prompting question, but he basically ended up narrating, in almost 600 words, the entire story for me when I asked him what happened in it. I typed it all out while he was talking, without drawing attention to the fact that I was doing so. So I'm left wondering if I actually have his first recorded "narration," and that was all there is to it. I'm wondering if it would have gone differently if I had labeled the question and his answer as part of "homeschooling."

I'm no narration expert, I'm trying to work it all out myself.

I can tell you that my 8 yr old dd writes long, very well composed stories, comprising of chapters no less, for fun by herself. We have started writing as a subject recently and I have been struggling to get even a few sentences from her

Sounds like he's a really enthusic reader though and his ability to tell back such a detailed retelling of what he's read is fabulous. Hope it stays this easy for you
