Hi Everyone,
My oldest ds, age 16.5, is scheduled to go to our local community college tomorrow (Thursday, 6/11 at 9 a.m.) to take a placement test so that he can take a class or two there in the Fall. He is mildly dyslexic and has struggled with academics to one degree or another all of his life. He told me this afternoon that he is scared to death he will "fail" the placement test tomorrow and that the counselor at the c.c. will think he is a "dummy". My heart just about broke! He is not a dummy and is actually quite intelligent, but he struggles (especially with math) and tends to get VERY nervous when testing.
Would you please consider saying a prayer for him that he will do well on the placement test tomorrow and that the Lord would help him to be confident and focused during the testing?
Also, if you could say a prayer that we get a counselor at the c.c. who is favorably disposed toward homeschooling families, that would be great!
Thank you all so much in advance!

Im happy to send some prayers your son's way.
Have you looked into any accommodations for his dyslexia?

Absolutely praying! Our experience with our community college has be just great...once you get past the gate-keepers who can be easily confused when you are a homeschooling family . Just keep smiling and nodding until you get to the person/s that "get it." Once in, I have found that all involved really want students to do well. They've seen it all and have all sorts of tutoring and helps for those who are willing to use it. Really...I was pretty nervous at first, too, as was my dd. Now we're happy we gave this route a try. Hope you find a great fit for your family .
Love,

Praying! As a mom of a dyslexic, I feel your pain! I would definitely look into someway of notifying the CC of his dyslexia too, many CCs are happy to accomodate, if they know, as previous posters have said.

Definately praying for your son. We've had the same issues and our 19dd has the most wonderful counselor at the CC.

Thank you everyone for your prayers! We finally got back from the c.c. and I wanted to let you know that ds did very well on the assessment test! He placed at college level for both English skills and (miraculously!!) math!! He was incredibly relieved! Now, dh, ds and I need to sit down and decide what courses he would like to take in the Fall, but that is so much less stressful
I cannot thank everyone enough for your prayers and kind words! Words really cannot describe what a confidence builder this has been for ds as well as me as a homeschooling mom!
Angie - I tried to send you a pm, but I got a note that your box was full. I'll try again later!
