Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Moms~

Any good books/ideas for teaching habits?

My 4yo needs some character training in...obedience...cheerfulness...helpfulness...honesty.

Also...what on earth do you do about something like "nose-picking"?   We try telling her it is germy, gross...it's terrible...I don't even want to tell you what she does with it after it comes out of her nose. Super-embarrassing. And gross.

We have the same super grossness here, so I'm no help. Just listening in for suggestions.

Raise Happy Children...Teach Them Virtues by Mary Ann Budnik is a great resource on the virtues including many stories of saints and some helps to teach your children. But the one thing that really has stuck with our family is the Character Cards from the CHC First Grade Lesson Plans. I printed them off, cut them out, and pasted them onto posterboard to post in our schoolroom. When manners start to slip, I have the child copy the character they are slipping on as a reminder.

Best of luck!

I have to second the Character Building Cards, they are a gem and my boys have truly been inspired by them! They can turn them into a special mini book that you can laminate or that they can keep special in a small photo book for them to refer back to!

Grossness still abound with my 4 yo, so I think it's a stage

Blessings,

We worked a lot on this last summer - hereis a link to some of the books etc.

We are going to revisit this summer - and I have some more books especially for the younger ones - I will post in the next few days. I need to find my books and booklist - there is a nice series for the 4-5 age group.
