Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Need some ideas here, we were reading Alyoshia Apple and dd was intrigued by the icons in it -one which looked a lot like one on our dinner table that was gift.

She would like to look into it more.

I thought we could visit the 2 Orthodox churches(russian and greek) in our area to see the Icons there if we can get permission.

I thought we could make the shrinky icons that have been mentioneed here.

I also hoping to go visit the lady that paints the icon who works in our parish (whe gave us the little one)

Other ideas? Good books ,picture or otherwise.
Dd is 8 but reads very well so it could be and older elementary level book.

Thanks- Maggie

Maggie,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the Seton Art 5 for Young Catholics has an entire chapter (#16) dedicated to Icons. The explanations of the symbolism was very interesting to our family when we read this chapter a few years ago.

Hope this helps.

Maggie,
I second Seton Art 5. My 5th grader and I just did this art book this past year but I reserved the Icon chapter for a complete iconic rabbit trail later.

I've had my sights set on this book that is at my Catholic bookstore:

Sacred Doorways: A Beginner's Guide to Icons by Linette Martin

With my oldest ds I had a coloring book of icons. I don't remember who published it but I know there's one out there.
