Having grown up in a small family (of four), where I was never even taught how to cook for that family, I'm really at a loss all of a sudden with cooking.

I can follow recipes fine. I even know how to double .

I keep wondering things like - can I put two totally different things in the oven? Or the same thing on two shelves like two full casserole dishes ? I know you shouldn't do that with cookies to keep the heat circulating (right?? lol), is it OK with other things?

Then there is the cooking/bakeware. We have what I would consider a large pasta type pot but I can see how 5 years from now it will not hold enough. Same with the 9x13 casserole dish we have. That just doesn't make enough of some things! Is there a bigger size or do you just make 2? Bigger crock pots? I know I've seen huge pots, but we have no storage space. Could someone come over and find a place for me to put it? Of course I'm just kidding...

Don't even get me started on the differing food allergies! But that is a whine/post for another day.

Hi, I'm Amy, and I hate cooking. I'm so bad at this! Is there a resource I can go to (book, website, etc) that can teach me just HOW to cook for my growing family of 6 - I don't need recipes (couldn't use most of them anyway) as much as I need the logistics, knowledge of cookware, etc. I did a google search and all I came up with was how to cook for 50-100. We may be a large family by some standards but not THAT large.

( blushing because I feel really silly posting this- at least it helps me stay humble )

When you outgrow regular pots and pans you have to go to a restaurant supply store and get the big stainless steel ones. i love them, they're indestructable. Regular cookware seems so wimpy now that I have some big commercial stuff.

'Course washing them in a regular sink is a little challenging but I'm willing to do it in order to use the pans.

I use the big 1x12x17 (?) cookie pans the most. They come bigger. And my big stock pot. I also use the pans that come with the chaffing dishes for casseroles.

A restaurant supply store is almost as much fun as a bookstore for me.
