Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used Kolbe's New Missal Latin? We're just finishing Getting Started with Latin and want to continue Latin with a program that is not by Memoria Press. We're considering New Missal Latin or The First Year of Latin.
Thanks.

My oldest used Missal Latin 1 and 2 when she was 14-15. She was able to complete the two books without any assistance. Her only prior experience with Latin was Roman Roots and attendance at the TLM. Karen

How did she like the program? Did you continue with Latin (Henle? Something else?)

Eva,

She liked the program quite well. She did not continue with another program after completing it as the purpose for studying Latin was to become more familiar with the traditional missal and to learn the prayers in Latin. However, if she had continued, she would have started with the second Henle book.

I preferred the Missal program over the Henle (which I also own) because every exercise is Catholic (prayers, hymns, scripture, etc.). I hope this helps. Karen

Thank you very much, Karen. It's too bad there are no sample pages anywhere to be found. I'll keep your info in mind when I decide on a second Latin program.

My vote is always for "The Latin Road to English Grammar." Starts slow, builds to a level commensurate with Henle. Not too many boring Ceasar stories, either! :-)

We are thinking of doing the online course that Linney is offering as well- we are through a bunch of Henle 1 but I need a change!

Kristie, have you looked at The First Year of Latin? There is a free version online. I'm curious how it compares to Henle.

I have looked at the lectures that are free on his site- and I have seen The First Year of Latin on Amazon but didn't know there was a free version online. Do you have the link??

Eva- am I supposed to be able to open this? All I can do is find links to sellers- I would think it would be public domain as it is so old?

Kristie (who is not very computer savvy these days!)

Kristie, I just tried clicking on the link in my last post. It takes me directly to the book. It's in books.google.com. Maybe there's a problem because you are in Canada?

Thanks so much,

Above the book there is a tab that reads "Read this book." Underneath is a tool bar with several options, including two arrows which let you page through the book. Just click on the direction you want to go.
