Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are planning to buy our first home this year and we have been praying for guidance as to where we should purchase. One of the places we are strongly considering is in Sacramento, CA.

But why Sacramento? For one, home prices are more affordable than the Bay area. Also, when dh and I were discussing possible areas to move into (while we were tuned in to Fr. John Corapi's program on EWTN) as soon as dh asks the question, "where do you think would be the best place for our family?", on cue, Fr. Corapi says "Sacramento" three times! We almost fell off our seats!

I started looking into Sacramento and said to myself, okay, if I can find a parish in Sacramento that offers the Sacrament of Confession before every Mass just like in Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara then maybe we should seriously consider moving there. When I checked the Sacramento Diocese website there was a long list of Parishes and guess what? The first parish I clicked on was St. Stephen that offers confession before every Mass!

We already went there twice and we actually like it. But since we are really not familiar with the Sacramento area, I would like to ask for more information like good areas or areas we should avoid, pros and cons, weather and the like.

Thank you so much.

Blessings,

We're in the Bay Area right now and have been considering a move to Sacramento at some point also. PM'ing you! (Oh, and I'm all ears for advice from others as well. )

It seems to me.. I have been through there for years but never lived there.. that the better areas tend to always be at the outskirts.. that's how you get "inner cities" things get worn down so those with money move out into the newer housing around the edges and the city gradually grows outward.. though you then also get areas that are renovated and nice within that perimeter as well. I think dh has an aunt that still lives in a decent area in Carmichael.
