Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

x-posted to The Great Outdoors:

We just started reading My Side of the Mountain and as we're reading, I realized just how much nature and living with nature information there is ... and we just finished Miracles on Maple Hill and Rascal and thought just how much "nature study" my kids are learning just from our read-alouds.

Can anyone suggest others that are great stories but also give so much nature information ... species and how to survive in nature, ways to live in and with nature, etc.

We are listening to the Swiss Family Robinson and I think I could spend an entire year on rabbit trails with this awsome book. Not only does it go into great detail with the flora and fauna but it also has great biblical basis for a wonderful prayer life. The book covers many survival techniques such as finding india rubber in a tree and berries that can be mixed with oil to make candles. I give this one 5+ stars!
