I've been married to a great guy for almost 19 yrs. We’ve weathered chronic illness, deaths in the family, infertility, then blessed with two dc with special needs, financial problems, unsupportive extended family, and my conversion to Catholicism with his support but not his conversion.
To help me heal from years of being sick, dh agreed to putting our dc into our parish school. Dd did very well academically and was honored for outstanding character but was severely bullied by four girls. Dh and I contacted the teacher and the principal but no action but no action was taken. My dd began to dumb herself down in classes because her teacher told her she was being bullied because she was new, smart, pretty, and nice. Finally, she was assaulted on the playground and no action was taken. Dh and I met with the principal next AM and the meeting was horrible. She told us to leave, since we disliked how she was running her school-and we would have to take up further complaints with the priest. We kept our dc at home, and emailed the priest. We were unable to meet at his offered and the Priest wrote back that that was all he could do for us, and that until we talked, it was best that our kids not return to school!! At the time of us pulling our dc out, there were 8 weeks of school left. I called the dept of ed, to see what our options were. I was told it was too late to hs them, as it takes awhile for papers to get processed-so we would have to enroll them in PS, which we did.
I cry every day. They come home more detached every day. Ds has had a rough time. Dd is being exposed to...everything and has gotten swept up in the social scene but she has been treated nice from day one. They moved her into the "gifted" classes, so at least she is being challenged-but still bringing home schoolwork only two times I believe. She has become distant-won't talk to me, as she is afraid she won't get to go back next year. She knows I don't like PS.
Next year. Dh thinks we should keep the dc in PS. Dh said there was NO WAY our dc would EVER attend a Catholic school again. To say this has left an even greater distaste of Catholicism is a HUGE understatement. He says they are doing well, the staff is much nicer, the choices for friends bigger, the work more challenging. He points out how dd had next to no friends the last year of hsing-as all of her friends went to school. True, and that is what she remembers-being at home a lot with me sick and a rowdy little brother. The Catholic hsing group here consists of mostly those who attend the Latin Mass which isn’t my experience. Plus, our Bishop isn’t supportive of homeschooling.
I will wrap this up by saying that we told the dc that putting them in PS was our only choice-we were reevaluating over the summer. Well, DH and dd are now completely happy with the way things are. Ds would be happy being at home. Dh wants me to get a job. I really want to hs both dc-all the way through high school! I've had a full year of AT-school-and I dislike every aspect of it. I feel like I have lost my dc, and that makes me angry towards DH....our church, our Bishop, everyone!!
Could you please pray that our family can overcome our biggest obstacles to hs:
~Getting DH to agree to it.
~Getting dd to agree to it.
~Finances- economy won't allow for me to make much $ now-IF my body cooperates.
~ My lack of confidence.
Thank you for reading and for your prayers.

Oh, dear, you have so much on your plate . You all want the same thing...to do what is best for each member of the family...but it can be hard to know what that is when life is difficult! I'm praying for careful discernment about how to proceed. May all hearts soften to God's will and may you all find peace in your decisions.
Love,

There are many great burdens you face here, and I do hear the anguish in your heart, particularly the great pain you feel regarding the children's education.
I ask Our Lady to cover you with her mantle, protecting you and offering you her heart to ponder these questions within. I'm praying that Our Lord will make His will known to you and your husband and that both of you will be able to move forward in God's Plan with great peace and consolation.

Praying for you...and for your family...my husband was against homeschooling in the beginning. It was so hard for me. But I held my tongue and prayed. A few weeks later... he had a change of heart. He said to me one evening..."You know, I think home schooling is wonderful idea and here's why..." And he went through a list of pros for home schooling. I was shocked!
I will pray for peace for you in whatever the outcome..that God's will be done!

Oh, I'm praying.
God ALWAYS brings good out of every situation, even though it might take a while. Have faith that His loving hand is in all of this suffering for you. I know that is hard and I will pray for all of you.
