I'm clueless. What's a good price for clothes, toys, etc.? I'm purging and decluttering before dh's deployment. I'm trying to simplify my life by simplifying our possessions. In the process, I'd like to make a bit of money thus the garage sale. Can you give me examples of what you'd pay for kids clothes and toys at a garage sale?
What about clothes that have a stain? What do you with them? I'd hate to donate clothes that have a stain but throwing them away seems so wasteful. Some of these items of clothing are quite sturdy except for stains.

basic run of the mill clothes don't sell that well here I usually put out grocery store plastic bags and sell them $1 a bag.. but I will hold out nicer items, brand name, like new, higher cost (like a fancy dress) and lable those individually.
Usually, at the nicer end I won't pay more than half price for like-new things and people garage saling are looking for bargains.. so selling for less often means you sell more items and you make up in volume what you lose in individual prices.. plus you're left with less to deal with at the end of the day.

KC, I held several Garage sales living on post and what sells well are clothes marked to sell... most of the time I sold individual items a dollar a piece and about 2-5 dollars for nicer things.. like the dresses. If it was an outfit, I sold them together marked sold as set.. for about 3-5 dollars depending on item. For stained items, ( if you want to try) soak in straight tide and wash ) other wise, group and bag them like Jodie suggested or mark them somehow so you know and sell for 50 cents a piece.. in the long run... 4 stained items is $2!! $1 shoes sell amazingly quicker than you'd think in this town. Nice toys mark, otherwise sell cheap.. or grouped as a set marked. Browse Goodwill or LofC if you have time to help you with bigger item prices , then mark a little bit lower. Also, Garage salers tend to want you to go lower even at 7 am here so be prepared to say either , no or write firm on some things you definitely would like the $$ out of or would rather keep than sell too low. ( Your IRL friends will help you with "quality control" with a preview the day before, LOL... if you want help, I'll come over and help you on whatever day you decide.

I was at a huge garage sale at a church this weekend and they sold all clothes by the bag...$4. Shoes were $1 per pair. Books were 50 cents unless they were textbooks.
My friend Toni (7 kids) suggests soaking stained baby clothes in OxyClean for several days (not just one!); she was surprised by how clean the baby clothes became.

I am too lazy to price for garage sales - mine are 50 cents for just about everything. I will group things that cost less, and price s a few items at a higher price. If it a toy that especially want out of the house, it goes in the free box
