Does anyone know of a movie (other than The Guardian) that features the US Coast Guard? My son would really love to know.
TIA

Hi,
I googled movies with US Coast Guard in them and found a long list.
God bless,

My husband's (who is a volunteer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and is a "fan") favorite Coast Guard scene was from the opening of Clear and Present Danger, but its just in the opening scene.
There are a few old movies like SOS Coast Guard. I think one reason the Guardian (which we own and watch the 60 minute Dad using the controls to skip scenes version with the boys) was so significant was because it was kind of the first of its kind. Most people forget about the Coast Guard and don't even list it when they list the branches of the military. I think that Katrina was really what brought the Coast Guard to the public eye.
My almost 5 year old wants to be a builder, a Coast Guard doctor, and a farmer.

Capt. Ron - US Coast Guard in our own warm waters.
The Perfect Storm - US Coast Guard in frigid northern waters.
Overboard - with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn has a US CG cutter at the end but the highlight for me was her closets on the boat.
Yours, Mine and Ours - I've only seen the old one where two nice large Catholic families become one and it was with the Navy, but the new one scoots the dad over to the Coast Guard, right?
White Squall - dh loves this movie and the idea of the sailing school, I found it gripping and completely terrifying and I would never in a thousand, thousand years run a boys sailing school on a sailboat. There are some issues you might want to preview for with the boys, and just so you know, I couldn't sleep after watching the ending and I think he told me that the Albatross is still off the Dry Tortugas which makes it even worse somehow.

Lindsay that opening scene is so incredible from "Clear and Present Danger". It blew me away. We saw that movie in the theaters and I literally felt sea sick during that scene.

Jennifer,
Perfect Storm sounds great! The [ulr=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0061148466?ie=UTF8&tag=stathanablog-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0061148466]book by Sebastien Junger[/url] is excellent and dh used it with his high school science classes for meteorology unit.

Jennifer, I remember the Yours Mine and Ours now! Dennis Quaid, right? Cute movie, and he is a Coastie. I liked the original Navy one, but the remake is fun, too.
I don't remember the Coasties in A Perfect Storm, but I think I saw it before I met my husband, so, I wasn't as aware.
Paul always laughs at the uniforms they put the big stars in that look so cool (I remember now his doing that in Yours Mine and Ours and The Guardian). He's like, that is NOT a military issued dress shirt
He also laughs at the scenes that are supposedly at Coast Guard facilities. They all look so big, important, and high tech --very unlike the actual facilities.
Wow, three brothers, Mary! How cool!

Thanks for your input, ladies! Looks like I have a few to add to the Q.
The Perfect Storm, however I have seen and no way will I watch that again. It was soooooo good but I totally cried like a baby I just cannot handle that kind of heart-wrenching stuff.
