We've discovered a helpful tip for bandaging wounds or sores in odd places, where regular bandages just don't stay put, such as hands, elbows, knees, etc. Not having a lot of bandages on hand, when several of us developed cuts and blisters from gardening, I thought of all the stray socks we have accumulated in a basket. We cut off a tube shaped section from several socks that seemed most suitable (white ones are preferable)...Voila! Free bandages that stay in place much better than adhesive ones, especially for those body parts that move a lot....another benefit is that they're washable and reusable! As I write this I have a blister in the palm of my hand, from gardening of course...I used a footie style sock, cut off the toe, and the heel, and have my thumb through the heel section. This is usable even inside gardening gloves, for extra padding...particularly helpful since the blister formed right through the gardening gloves.
we recently discovered a great homeopathic drawing salve, Smile's PRID, which has been excellent for stubborn sores that don't want to heal. Definitely useful for those working in the garden this time of year.
On another note, please be careful when working in the yard or garden if you run across pokeweed. I had a severe reaction last week, after being scratched on the arm by an old dry stem of pokeweed. Thankfully, I had homeopathic remedies, arnica montana and rhus tox in the house...taking both, every 15 min. until symptoms subsided, kept me from having to be hospitalized.

That's a great idea! I don't know about everyone else, but I have a collection going of unmatchable socks that I always think "I might as well throw these out, I haven't seen matches to them in months". But, sometimes it is hard to throw out things that seem like there MUST be some use for them.

you need good leather gloves when using tools like shovels and rakes and hoes to protect your hands.. gardening gloves are more just to protect your hands from the dirt and light tool use.
