Yesterday I asked if we could try feeding Regina on demand since she's been consistently eating a little better. So, since 5:30 last night, she's not had any tube feedings. She took about an ounce every 3 hours or so, but she woke up hungry, ate until she was full, then went back to sleep. She gained about 9 grams, so not a lot, but still, she didn't loose weight, so that's good.
This morning I asked the nurse if they could take out the tube since she's not using it. She said they could, so I'm hoping that helps her to eat a little more, since she'll be able to breath better and not have something sitting in the back of her throat.
Please pray that she does well with her feedings today so that she can come home!!

New update for today:
They are continuing to let her eat on demand today with no feeding tube. At her weigh in last night she had lost 40 grams. The nurse said she took about 30 cc's (or an ounce) at each of her feedings last night.
The dr said that they would continue without the feeding tube so long as she pees/poops normally and doesn't loose too much weight. She is on a high calorie diet, so they said she needs to take in about 9 ounces a day. When they tallied up her total for the first 24 hours without the tube, she had taken 7.5 ounces, so she's close!
She's learning a whole new skill here, and it's going to take her a little time to catch on. I'm hopeful that today will go well and she'll start to improve, and that the hyper-sensitive NICU dr's won't jump the gun and put the tube back in too soon.
