I like the TT samples very much but I've always been attracted to Math U See. Can some of you tell me what you prefer about one over the other?
Thanks in advance,

I was just coming to post on a topic that is related...
I am wondering why people start with MUS and then switch to TT? What is it about TT that people like so much that they are excited about moving to TT as early as 4th grade???

Ladies,
I was coming to post that exact ? Books!!! We started with MUS for my 3rd grader and moved to Abeka for a ton of reasons, too long to list (pm me if you want specifics) but I really, really like the TT idea especially for my very visual learner.
So please answer our questions if you can... What do you like about TT??? Anyone??

(disclaimer: I only have the older MUS sets. I have used Foundations, and Intermediate. i have not used the newer ones, so don;t know how the lecture might have changed.)

because, it is fun, simple, staright forward, interactive, and easy. The topic is explained out, worked out, right in front of them. They hear it, and also see it being worked. It is not like the MUS lectures. the feel is totally different. My kids even get excited by being able to pick out their screen buddy. It almost makes math seem like a game at the lower levels. My ds loves doing Math now, and his little sister loves to sit and watch him do it. (I guess I should add that they do play things like webkinz and Club Penguins on the computer, so it isn't just because they are getting computer time. They actually like the math.)
It just works.
MUS was okay. I used it before TT came out with the lower levels.
I am not sure how to explain it, but it is like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, they are both media based, but they are nothing alike.
I love TT.
I do not even look at other Math programs. They no longer even pique my interest. the curriculum junkie in me is totally satisfied with TT.
It is what they will use, from the time they can start it until they graduate.

We use TT and have also used MUS. We don't use the CDs for TT much (for my 6th grader) and she still likes the program. She enjoys the funny word problems and the spiral approach really helps her remember concepts.
My son uses TT for Algebra II and likes being able to check his work right away on the computer. He even tolerates the spiral approach because he likes the program so well. (Saxon was a complete failure because it was spiral, so that's saying a lot.) I definitely wish we had found TT several years ago.

Hmmmmmmm...Someone told me that the younger TT levels are interactive in some way? Maybe that's what is so appealing.
Alg 1 and Geometry are not interactive (unless that's changed since we bought them...we have Alg 1 from 2007 and Geom from fall 2008). Ds didn't like Steve Demme (the MUS guy), so we went with TT for him after reading the raves in the Sonlight catalogue. TT is controversial on the SL forums. Some feel its not hard enough, but after reading the looonnnnngggg threads on the topic, I kind of get the impression that its the strong math moms with strong math whiz children who think its not challenging enough. That's not my family.
Ds has done fairly well with it. He's not terrible at math but not a math whiz, either. Ds and Dh like most that there is a solution to watch for every problem we cannot figure out ourselves. They sometimes feel there isn't enough practice before moving on to the next concept. I am *terrible* at geometry. I have been completely uninvolved. Dh has worked with him. I don't think ds would have been able to understand it all without dh's help, so I wouldn't call it entirely independent. That said, I don't know if *any* geometry program could be classified as completely independent.
The rest of my kids are on MUS, and they all *love* it. Everyone feels successful at math, which I consider a big deal. This fall, I'll have one in Zeta, one in Gamma and one in Alpha. Ds struggled mightily with Saxon 76 when it came time for fractions. Dd is no more gifted at math than he is, but never struggled through the entire Epsilon year (fractions). So I do feel like MUS's dvds and Steve's teaching methods are good. And I like that the entire year is spent mastering one area of math (with some review of older concepts), rather than the spiral approach, which never seemed to work well here.
So now I find myself wondering if I should continue to let dd work with MUS through high school or switch her over to TT (we've only used the two levels above). Part of me is thinking, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I guess that's why I am wondering why people switch to TT for high school after using MUS for the younger years. Has anyone used both MUS and TT for high school?
