Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow! I think we mentioned this book years ago, but we've just pulled it out and read it again this week:
Miracles on Maple Hill is an amazing read-aloud -- great story about family helping each other thru tough times, post-WW2 trauma, living in the country, nature study ... the rabbit trails from this one could last for six-weeks if not longer! This is a great story! And the nature information (a whole year's worth) is fabulous with lots of flowers, plants, animals described and named (many with multiple names) and given historical placement. The information about sugaring -- getting the syrup from maple trees -- is fascinating.

Definitely worth reading to YOUR family!

I bought this book a couple of years ago and it's been on Luke's shelf. Thanks for the reminder! We read a lot of books on maple sugar this year too. Isn't there a sequel as well?

Thanks for the glowing recommendation, Mary - this is in our "queue" and I'll make sure it doesn't get pushed aside, now!
