Teaching Textbooks????
I just got TT5 for my ds. (He had scored into 4. I waited and waited for 4 to be released. But he is good at Math, and when I looked into 5, I felt he could probably do it. So I ordered it. A week later 4 was finally released - altho it still might be in a pre-order phase - but 5 is working well so it's all good....)
Anyway, he *likes* Math. And he is really liking TT.
I love this program. I am so glad they are going all the way down to 3rd grade.

They're still in pre-order. Hopefully will be out at the end of April! We're in line for our copy.

I did the exact same thing as you Laura, only a few months ago. My guy is doing SO much better than he did with Saxon. I pre-ordered 4 for my next in line! I LOVE LOVE LOVE TT!

We are big fans too. And Jenn, the man on the phone said if not the end of April, then no later than the first week of May!

Thanks Charlotte!
We thought about NOT waiting and going with TT5, but in the end there were just a few too many things I wanted her to review. So we got 4 for the review, and I'm making her 6yo sister watch while she does a lesson. (She'll enjoy it)

okay...
so sell me on TT...
really I'd love a math program to enjoy...
MCP is fine until about mid-way through 4th grade..
and I. hate. Saxon.
and none of my kids do very well with a DVD/CD lesson (I know, freaky odd even to me.)
so.
what do you like about TT?

if this is the case, it may not work for you.
However, this is nothing like the MUS DVD lessons.
If you go to teh TT site, you can pick a level and watch actual lessons, pulled right from the series (you even input the answers the same, etc.) I would see if your kids liked doing that, and if so, go from there.

I honestly can't imagine a kid that wouldn't like this. I like the clean, open look of it - the screen and/or pages are not busy at all, but still interesting. When my 10 y.o. does it - all of the littles watch too! LOL! And it is the most mom friendly thing I have ever seen too!

I am crazy about TT too! Our children have been using it from prealgebra through geometry...but I am so excited to try the elementary books and cds. Our daughter did some of the sample lessons online and loved it!
Yeah for math...I look no further now...phew...what a relief!

This is our first year with TT and we absolutely love it as well. We used MUS in the beginning which we also liked. But we hated, hated Saxon! We will always use TT from now on!

Yes, Math used to be the one thing where it seemed nothing was really a great fit. We tried SO many different programs.
Now, Math is not a concern. Oh, I never thought I would get to write those words!!!
It is easy. It is simple. The kids *like* doing it - they would even call it fun!
yep, I ***love*** TT.

For any Australians who have long been regretting we don't have something like Teaching Textbooks (like me) please check out Mathematics.com.au This is an Australian highschool(grades 7-12) course that teaches in an audio/visual manner via the computer. The lessons are very well presented and clear; after printing out and completing the lesson the child enters the answers and the lesson is marked for you!
Previously purchasable as a CD or an online course for a substantial amount of money (we paid hundreds) it is now incredibly available for free!! if you still prefer to have the CD it is only $70.
I can't recommend this enough, my son now likes maths or at least happily tolerates it this is a major turn around.

At first only my dd has been using it for pre-algebra onwards. But I realize that it is indispensable for mamas who are sometimes too tired or busy first thing in the morning to sit down and explain things! I love the fact that there is even an explanation of all the problems in the lesson - if someone gets something wrong and cannot understand it. So I will have my younger boys do TT6 next year as well as my dd.
The only problem is that between TT and IEW most of my budget will be used up I justify it by the fact that my children love Math and I have younger children who will use it too.

Are you using the pre-tests to select the TT level? Is it a straight transfer over from Saxon (this year 5th grade Saxon, next year 6th grade TT) ?
TIA,
Jen

I find TT is about 1- 1 1/2 years behind Saxon. My dd went from Saxon 76 in 6th grade to TT pre-algebra in 7th grade.

Thanks for the Saxon info - when I looked at the pre-tests I was thinking they were a little behind. Having your real-life experience is very helpful!
