Several of us have been discussing bible programs for next year, and Memoria Press' program has come up a few times. I'm thinking about using it with my 9 and 12 yr olds next year, 2 lessons a week, as the basis for our religion. The 12 yr old is already doing another history program (SL's core 5) but I don't have any history planned yet for the 9 yr old. We've done SOTW I and II so she's had Egypt, Greece, and Rome, along with bits of Israel's history as it came up. Do you think I could work Christian Studies so that I could call it history for her as well? I know there's map work in it already. I am unfamiliar with literature at the third/fourth grade level that focus on the history of the Jews, Caananites, etc. I am sure there are things I could read aloud, but I am looking for readers she could do more independently, after we work together on the MP bible lesson.
Any ideas???

I googled Jewish history children's books and got this. There were lots of other possibilities that googling brought up, too. How about a unit on Alexander the Great? Usborne Young Reading Series has a title Alexander the Great which your library may have. It's about 60 short pages, divided into 10 chapters. The ultimate consequences of Alexander's conquest of Palestine are recounted in the books of Maccabees.

Hi,
This may not answer your question, but have you looked at RC History? You could use the program, or you might at least get ideas for books from their website: http://www.rchistory.com.

What about History Links-Ancient Israel? It's more of a unit study feel, though, than a booklist,so I'm not sure that's what you want. I'm drawing a blank on books at the lower elementary levels for Bible History; seems like there's a literary gap there! I'll be excited to see other ideas here.

My son has just completed Christian Studies I and I just ordered Christian Studies II. We love the series so far, but I don't know about calling it history...it's really more picking apart the most well known stories of the Bible. The map work is pretty simple. I think it has been an excellent resource for Religion/Bible studies but I don't think he has gotten much History out of it thus far other than what we all get when reading a children's Bible...I hope this helps.

I think you are looking for historical fiction - but I thought I'd share these in case they would be helpful anyway
Our Young Folks Josephus - Jewish/Biblical history
A Child's Geography -vol 2 - Explore the Holy Land
Still looking for more liturature ... I'm interested in this for next year too.

Thank you! I'll check out the links you all have provided. Veronica's Veil, I know its not intended to be used this way. It was just an idea I had that maybe I could add to it and make it history as well...Still not sure what I'm going to do. My goal is to minimize history a bit this year in favor of some other subjects.
