Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The second grade lesson plan thread has me feeling guilty.

I am pretty much going with SL K for my dd6, and WP for my ds10. Very open and go, all laid out.

I am hardly even thinking of tweaking.

But then I feel guilty. I could do other things, less structured, things I pull together, and tweak and transform...

But honestly, right now I am emotionally spent. I am exhausted in my mind. I can even think straight for worrying half the time.

Is it horrible to admit that I just need open and go, and for someone else to do my planning for me this year? I know I can follow the SL plan - and it will still be a good year, with lost of great books and snuggle time....

so why do i feel guilty?

absolutely okay.
you feel guilty because moms just don't feel like they are mothering unless they feel guilty I think.

you want to do it all and know you can't so you're doing your best which is very good and worthy and not even a little bit horrible.

btw I miss your blogging...
but figure you are busy...
you know actually raising kids and such.

Just the fact that you are able to make a decision about what you are going to do makes you my hero! Revel in that ability and enjoy all that energy that some of us squander on chronic indecisiveness. We can all find something to feel guilty about, can't we?!

yeah, don't feel guilty about homeschooling plans, feel guilty about not blogging .
I've had a few "no tweaking allowed" years, and they have been our BEST years, and the years that I spent the least amount of money, and dh was happiest, too, not to mention my children who will remain nameless -
who like to "know where they stand" education wise- you know as in week 12, day two!!!

OK??? It sounds wonderful!

I never really tweaked to much til this year- I always added a few things here and there or skipped some but nothing big

Looking forward to less tweaking next year!

Good grief, Laura! With all you have going on right now? Yes, here is your official permission:

Laura, you may do exactly what is best not only for your dear children, but also what is best for you.

Its ok to do what is best, no matter what that best is.

Love you!

Quit looking around at everyone else, Laura, and have peace. Your year sounds lovely. We each do what's best for us - for the season of life we're living, for the children we have, for the moms we are.

Go enjoy your boxes of delicious books and your kids!

I think that sounds perfect. Rest in the simplicity of it.

Laura, I wish I could find a simple solution, as you have, so that I could free up more time and energy for other important issues in my life. I think you should write all your guilty feelings on a piece of paper, light a candle, say a prayer and burn up the paper.

If God has opened this door for you, walk on through. Accept His gift of peace of mind in this area of your life. You will be so glad to have more time and energy to devote to other issues.

It is perfectly okay to use the works of skilled educators and faithful Catholic parents in your homeschooling curriculum. Remember that some of our most famous statesmen were taught at home and learned a great deal by following pre-established educational practices - John Adams read law with a local attorney, and supplemented his legal training by reading known, accepted texts and literature. Your children (the ones affected by this particular choice) are young and will do just fine with the pathways you have selected.

It is okay to tell the Good Lord that you can't do everything...we're supposed to rely on Him...if you've found a way to ease some of your concerns about planning and tweaking, that can only be a good thing.

Honestly, you are such a loving and caring mom - it's YOU your children want and need, not individualized lessons every day of the year. Going with SL and WP will help you be more present to your children. All good.

So...get out that piece of paper...
