Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

what should my daughter do? She is entering 8th grade.
I really need some direction as I know that Lingua Mater is a gentle approach to grammar and much more. I liked it she liked even more. So now I am not sure what way to go.
Any ideas?

ETA I was looking at the Queens LL

But I am not sure if there would be any questionable anti catholic content.

What are you looking for? More grammar? More writing experience? LM has a mix of both...

One option I really like is Kolbe's Jr. High Lit (This is not signing up with Kolbe for their 8th grade program...Its a manual they sell). A lot of it is appropriate for early high school, which makes it a bargain, but there are definitely books in it that are more jr. high level, so it could be used for 8th and 9th. Its all spelled out per week, and the notes are clear enough to have good discussions with your child. There is no grammar in it. Its literature discussion, written responses to literature, and there are tests if you want them (or not ).

I am looking for a gentle grammar more than anything, something she will continue enjoying. I also have her doing Student Writing Intensive and I will move her along with that because she also has enjoyed that.
I will look at Kolbe's Jr. High Lit program also see if it is anything she might like. We are currently finishing up MODG History and Literature.

I've never seen Queen's books. I know some people who like them and some who really don't...I like Easy Grammar.

That would be something I would really be interested in.

I am going to look into Easy Grammar also, but I just wonder if it is to dry.

We absolutely love Queen's Language Lessons. Two of my students (well, my only two) are finishing their first Queen's books next month and we have been very, very pleased. We are using them again next year. We aren't Catholic though, so I can't help you out in that area.

That is what I hear from many people, that they love the Queen's LL.
We are Catholic (obviously ) so that is really important to me. I would rather go with a non secterian grammar program then have her go through LL that are anti-catholic.

My dd 8th grade has used Queen's LL this year and she hasn't found it be anti-Catholic. Of course she isn't finished yet but so far so good.

Lingua Americana from Hillside info

I plan on buying it next summer when she expects to have it available, but am going with Seton for my son who is just about done with LM in the mean time. However, youmight contact her about getting weekly lessons as she suggests in her blog.
With my large crew, I have to plan way further ahead than a week at a time to get anything done, but I bet it could work for other families.

I heard from Margot a bit ago and my impression was that she is putting the finishing touches on LM8 (Lingua Americana). I bet she'll have it available in time for the fall.

I can't seem to re link to the website so I think you might have to copy and paste it to your browser.

I am so happy to hear that it might be ready, my dear husband also knows what a yipee is so hopefully it is not too much.
