As a baby, my 8yo was anaphylactically (sp??) allergic to eggs. Over the years her blood test numbers have gone down, indicating she may possibly be less allergic. Tomorrow we go to the allergists office for a 3 hour long "egg challenge" where we feed her actual eggs and watch to see what happens. It could be nothing, or she could still go into anaphylaxis! (that's' why it's done at the doctors) I'm a little nervous, I feel like they are asking me to feed my baby poison!
My daughter and I would appreciate prayers for her safety, and if it is God's will, a 100% successful challenge so that she can eat the birthday cake at her friends birthday parties (that's her #1 wish!).
Now I have to go find a French toast recipe...that's what they want me to bring to feed her at the office. I haven't made French toast since she anaphylaxed on eggs at 13 months, I hope I remember how!
Thank you for your prayers.

Wow, Amy! It would be so wonderful if she outgrew this allergy! I know your fears, though. Praying!
French toast...one really easy way: Just eggs, a bit of milk, dash of vanilla extract. I guess we usually do 1 egg per 2-3 slices of bread. My family likes to have butter with confectioner's sugar on top. NO syrup.

Jenn -- here's another vote for powdered sugar and melted butter on top YUMMMMMM -- (maybe I'll have to make some pre-Christmas french toast tomorrow ).
Amy -- you can also add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the batter. Use stale snadwich or french bread and let the bread soak up that good batter. It should be pretty liquidy so after putitng in the eggs, add the milk (almost the consistency of eggnog).
Hope that helps...French Toast was the Sunday breakfast Dad taught me to make (we each had a different Sunday morning specialty -- to give Mom a break and give us some "Dad time"). With 9 people (6 males!) we had to make lotssssssssss

Thank you both! We have to leave at the crack of dawn to get there on time...do you think it would be gross if I made the French toast the night before?

Although everyone says that...we've just used plain on whole wheat bread. Any bread works.

Weekend breakfasts were my father's specialty. Saturdays were either pancakes, waffles or French Toast. There was 9 of us also, and the vote was usually French Toast. Although we had few boys, my siblings could tuck away quite a few pieces of F.T.!
Sundays was the traditional eggs and bacon routine. It's a lovely family memory.

I hope that things go well at the doctor's. Allergies with anaphylaxis are so scary.
Sending prayers your way.

Well, she failed.
She did fine with a little bit, but after a tablespoon she started coughing and sneezing. After we were sent home she broke out in hives all over her face, back and chest. She seems much better now though so I'm hoping the worst is over!
Thank you for all your prayers. I'm thankful she is fine, and really, now things will just go along as they always have been - but part of me just wants to sob, lol!
Editing to add: I made some yummy French toast last night, and FORGOT IT at home! Dh had to run to the bagel shop next to the doctors office to get some scrambled eggs. At least now I have some great recipes to choose from! (for dh, who can eat it)

Praying for you all!
Of course, you want to sob! The pressure of the test and the unknown is off!
Hang in there!

I'm so sorry! I know how it feels as a mother to see your child having to suffer this way. It breaks your heart!
I was watching my niece and nephew and just spent lunchtime explaining to my 2 yos that he couldn't touch or eat his cousin's PB&J because he was allergic to the bread...that it would make him sick. His big eyes looking at me and then the food trying to figure it all out is so hard for me to take!
