Just had to share this - at my old parish in AZ (which I am missing so badly since moving to NV) there were 80 people entering the Church at the Vigil Mass!

Well, you beat us by 5. But we have 75 more people coming into the church for the next week (various masses and next Sunday). It is just so exciting!

OK, so, logistically, how do you baptize 80 people in a timely manner???
Our little parish had three, I think, and the Vigil Mass still lasts 2.5 hours. How long was it there?!

Ours was a little over 3 hours. There were 20 baptisms, then everyone was confirmed. It is long, but it's just thrilling to be in the same room with all these wonderful graces! I will say that there isn't much space in our church for non-family/friends to sit. So I was actually there 4 hours just to get a seat.
I just read this quote yesterday from Vine and Branches, Vol. 1 by The Very Rev. Martin B. Hellriegel, 1948, and I loved how he phrased this connection of our baptism with the resurrection...made me think of the vigil and the newly baptized:
Quote:
Our baptismal day was our resurrection; was Christ's resurrection in us, was our resurrection in Christ, the beginning of the "newness of life," life in Christ. "If (then) ye be risen with Christ," continues the apostle, "seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God, mind the things that are above" |
