Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm facing a possible new change - our son asked to stop co-sleeping today, so we are trying out the new arrangement to see if they cope.

I was wondering how you deal with bedrooms in your family - philosophically and practically. We have an almost 2yo and a 5yo, and a master bedroom, a medium sized room big enough for two children to share, and 1 small one suitable for one child. At the very moment, they are both in one room, him in a single bed and her in a double. I'm not sure whether sharing is better than being in two rooms.

And I'm not sure whether this will even work! Or whether I'm ready to leave co-sleeping behind me. at the thought of no more nights cuddling up to small people!

I've found that littles that are used to snuggling tend to like being with siblings.. I don't worry about seperating out the boys and girls until they get older.. and we have a boys room and a girls room.. but littles often pick whoever they want that night. We have arguments over who gets to have the littlest one not with me.

We have 3 bedrooms.
1- dh, baby & me...with various other little people in and out.

2- 5 girls sleep in this room. It has 2 sets of bunk beds (that are NEVER all full, because they all sleep together) and a crib, that baby sleeps in part-time. We call this the "sleeping room", for obvious reasons.

3-all the dressers and clothing, along with diaper changing station, and my desk. We call this the "changing room."

dh and I both felt strongly that we wanted shared bedrooms...even if there were a boy in there, we'd have him sleep in there until he was older.

Let's see, right now it's:

Master (13x12 feet - I know all dimensions because I was measuring to compare to the homes we are looking to move into sorry I don't know it in meters ) has a queen bed with me/dh and co-sleeping 18 month old. There's also a portable crib in there for naps.

Larger girls bedroom: 11x9 ft. Two unbunked twin beds and a toddler bed. My 9, 6, and almost 4yo daughters sleep here. It's wall to wall beds.

Smallest bedroom: 8x10 ft. One twin bed. My 11yo DD sleeps there.

We are most likely going to put our house on the market soon, so we'll do some bedroom rearranging to make it look presentable: We'll bunk the beds and remove the toddler bed. My 11yo DD will have the top bunk, and the 6 and 3yo DDs will share the bottom twin bunk. My dh thinks it will be fine but I have my doubts. My girls like having company, but *really* like their own space at the same time. I don't think they are going to like sleeping right on top of each other. My (lucky ) 8yo will now get her own room for awhile - she can't do a top bunk because she sleepwalks and we're afraid she'd get hurt.

Someday we hope to have four bedrooms so that our son can have his own room and each girl will share with one other sister. I don't think it matters at young ages, but dh is pretty adamant about not lumping our DS in with the girls.

We have between 3 and 6 bedrooms, depending on how the house is arranged at any given time (it's an old, quirky house and some of the rooms' "intended purposes" are totally counter-intuitive). I always intended my boys to share a room (my philosophy was that sharing a room now made sharing personal space easier as a spouse or religious later on), but their sleep patterns are so different we haven't done it yet, and if they don't normalize to each other soon I may never do it unless circumstances force my hand, like we finally have a girl or something. I just can't imagine either one of the boys getting the sleep they need right now while accommodating each other's very different schedules.

I think my new philosophy is, "Whatever gets us all the best sleep."

4 bedrooms
1. dh, sometimes maria, and me
2. 12x16 two boys age 9 and 6, bunkbed , plus storage closet for all extra clothes, and thomas train table repurposed as Lego/playmobil table.
3. 10x10 two boys ages 12 and 15, one desk, two dressers
4. 9x10 Maria, single bed, bookcase, desk, also "quiet" study room during day.
I'm a big believer in sharing no matter what, Maria does tend to wander a bit around 4am-ish. and ends up cuddled in a lower bunk with someone or with us .
I don't want her or any of the kids to have the "my room" attitude...

In our 900 square foot home we have three bedrooms. The master bedroon is dh and I and almost three year old. We just moved ds-almost 4 into the "boys" rooms. This room has 4 boys-a bunk bed for ds-16 and ds-19 and a single bed for ds-9 and ds-3. (Ds 22 just moved out of this room into his own apartment-he had a bunk and ds-9 had a pull out mattress.

The girls room has 4 girls dd-20, dd-15, dd-13 and dd-7. It has one bunk bed and a single. The dd-7 sleeps with whatever sister happens to be her current favorite.

The dressers our in the basement. This helps quite a bit--but it is still a bit cramped.
