Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My math loving son has been plugging along with Life of Fred Algebra this year and it has been challenging for him (1st time ever). Anyway, he's on trinomials now and fractions and I'm being asked when he will have to use this in the "real world". Anybody have a response for me? Also, if anyone has a good resource for real life algebra problems, please let me know.

Thanks!

There is "Real Algebra" by Edward Zaccaro.

He has a company online called Hickory Grove Press (sorry I don't know how to link).

I don't have the Real Algebra book (we are not there yet) but I have others by him and think they are excellent- especially for math minded kids.

Thanks, Tracey, for the recommendation. I found sample pages here samples if anyone else is interested. I may get this. I did happen across this very awesome site today. It has real world lessons for various levels in math, science, etc. There are short videos and printable lessons to go with them. They look like they go right along with a profession...like using fractions to make model cars. I haven't tried these out yet on my guys, but plan to soon.
