Please would you share your ideas on where to buy good quality and well fitting clothes for tween/teen girls - I have written a post Mission Impossible - please would you comment there or here on sources - I am trying to find online/catalog/stores which sell decent clothing.
Thank you so much!

Marilyn, my 12 dd is fairly tall, so we are (thankfully) looking at women size 2 petites for her when we shop. There are a lot of options, even in the thrift stores, once they grow into women sizes.

We're doing exactly the same thing and a whole new world has opened up to us! Sarah is quite tall and slim - if anything I have to take a tuck or two in at the waist (which wouldn't be hard for Abby to do as well at the machine - just easy darts in the waistband). Target has some adorable white short sleeve sweaters right now for wearing over sleeveless!
I am however having sooooooo much trouble finding a nice, modest white dress for confirmation in her size. We're heading out to the mega-mart bridal shop in town this week....and then, I start hunting with fury online. But...if any of you have any recomendations...I'm so all ears!

How about Burlington Coat Factory? We used to live near one, and always found good items there. I don;t know if it has changed, or if we just got lucky, or what....
Also - if you don;t mind shopping online - look for LDS clothing sites. There are
a lot of links at this site in the Jr section which may also have resources for white modest dresses, too.
I have had great luck with LDS resources for modest clothing in all sizes.

I think my MIL normally finds things at Penneys.. but I think just about anywhere is a hunt. And while my just turned 12 is still in little girls sizes (a perfect fit for 12slims) she does like the skirts at Landsend. She likes the plaids but they also have simple chino skirts that are the longer length.
just about any store is going to be a hunt. I would search online myself even if we were going into the stores to look and try on. That way I'd have a better idea where to look for what.. and it's easier to see a top at one store that goes with a skirt at another type of thing.

We are struggling with the same problem. We went to www.blair.com and found really pretty skirts, very reasonably priced, in the petite's section. My dd is tall for a 12 yr old, but not tall enough to be out of petites.
I'm struggling now to find a dressy blouse for the cute skirt we found for mass. Everything that is in the petite's dept. assumes a larger chest than she has or are too low cut, and the little girl blouses are too casual. Any suggestions?

My almost 9 year old is 4'11 and we started having this problem a while ago. We usually buy from our local consignment store so there are a bunch of different name brands she can try on. She wants a pair of modest jean shorts and this has been a mission. Has anyone seen one online they like?
BTW We just bought her some great bathing suits at landsend.com. She was able to get a great fitting suit that we are very happy with.

We have exactly the same problem. Also a lot of the dressy blouses are very see through. What we have done is to buy a couple of camisoles in various colors that she wears under the dressy shirts - and makes them look decent.

Of course the real solution is to sew our own clothes... my dd makes skirts and is trying her first dress - but it is hard for her as I am clueless...

We checked online before going out yesterday. But many of the online things were not found in the stores. We checked Penneys, Sears and Old Navy. No luck. I will mention Aeropostale. My dd asked if we could go in - I was VERY grudging - but agreed to take a look - as trendy teen shops are not my favorite. To be fair - it was not totally over priced like Limited Too etc. And I do not think it has the same yukky reputation as Abercrombie and Fitch? No horrid posters of models or anything. I did not like most of the stuff - but - we found some very decently priced, good quality polo shirts - fitted and long and good quality.

We just got back from Aeropostale. It is not my favorite store either, but some of the clothes work. Dd knows that she needs to wear a cami under most stuff from there.
I'll tell you Marilyn, as we were going from store to store at the mall today I was wondering the very same thing....Where can we shop????

Hanna Anderson has lovely, comfortable, modest clothing. I buy most of ours on ebay. Such a difficult age!

I just got home from the mall w/ my 16 yr old ds. He needed clothes for the Athletic Banquet tomorrow night.
I never shop at the mall so it gave me a once-a-year chance to observe the new fashions and trends.
Your post, Mary Chris, reminds me of what my 18 yr old dd tells me. "It's all about layers, Mom. Layers."
Sounds like something Shrek would say.

My dd won't go into most of the "trendy" mall stores because they're so dark inside. How can anyone see the clothes, she asks? (And the Under Armor shop looks like a Star Trek set.)
It's very frustrating to shop with a tween - she's willing to follow our family's standards, but between the unacceptable items and the made in China items, we're often left with only one or two options.
We are working on upgrading our sewing skills, but with my ancient machine we are at a disadvantage. (And guess where most affordable machines are made?)
This is a great thread. I hope more moms weigh in with ideas and resources, to add to the excellent comments I've read so far!

I just have a small tangent story...I went into a small shop that opened about a year ago in our community, Justice (ever heard of it?) I had never heard of it, so I went in. Everything was so incredibly skimpy and low cut, it was really gross. The annoying part was, it looked so cute from the outside. And when you first walked in, very bright and cheerful, nice colors (I'll give them that).
So anyways, I was mad at myself for wasting my time (I had precious little time and I was sneaking in a peak) and as I walked out sales lady (who looked like she wore the same things) said, I hope you can come back next time with your dd...and I said "Oh no, this place is completely immodest and has inappropriate clothing for young ladies." She was totally shocked and frankly I was too...don't know where that came from!
