We are looking for not just a couple of Easter dresses, but dresses that will work for Easter, a piano recital and a dressy family function in August. I have looked at the big department stores and I am seeing the same variation on a theme styles over and over. Some of them are pretty so they might do but I was just wondering if you gals had any online resources that you'd care to share for beautiful girl dresses. Bright colors, poufy skirts, modest styles, you know? TIA!

Matilda - I have also just posted clothing concerns! We were in the mall yesterday - and saw some lovely Easter dresses for younger girls - depending on the size of your girls. I cannot remember now where? I will check with dd. The only objection I have is that most were sleeveless Not sure what your budget is - but I will check into a couple of online sources - probem for me is the dresses start at $70 - way too high for my budget. Give me a few hours - I have a tiny slugger to send off the Opening Day! I am sure others will have good ideas.
One quick though - Kohls?

We did well with Hanna Andersson a couple of years ago for a dress that spanned just the occasions you mentioned. It looked a lot like this one. Last year, we did one similar to this one.
My girls really wore both dresses all summer long and they still look good enough to hand down.

Husband says that he doesn't mind if we spend a little bit more than we usually do since we are buying them one dress each to last for three major functions. I don't think I could bring myself to pay $70 each though. I don't mind sleeveless dresses because I can always find a white cotton sweater or make a simple shrug to go over them. My girls are in the girls 10-12 size range depending on how it is cut.

Elizabeth,
Those links aren't working. Was one of them the Plaza Piazza Dress? I think younger daughter who hates anything around her waist (like a seam) would love an A-line style like that!

No time to re-link. The first was Fields of Blue and the second was Three Sisters Twirl Dress, more or less. I blogged both Easters, so you could see them on my blog too if you scroll through archives. And the girls wore them to a dressy family reunion two years ago.

Charlotte - I was just going to suggest Hanna Anderson! Also, if you can search out a nice consignment shop - even if you have to make a drive to another town - I've had such good luck with finding hartstrings, strasburg, hanna anderson at much reduced prices in consignment...and ebay. Can either of the girls fit into the petite sections yet? Sarah is a very tall, slim size 14 but can wear size 2 petite and it has offered so many more options for us. Her current preference for dress style is (her words) an "I Love Lucy" style...which is to say, full skirt and gathered waist. Hard to find in '09.
Hanna Lise has some nice dresses (all very pretty and modest) - not sure if you've checked them out yet?
And, I mentioned on Marilyn's thread...but in case you have to go with sleeveless...Target has some adorable white short sleeve sweaters right now...but you better get over there today or you'll miss 'em! They seem to go so fast!
Good luck to you!

My girls are still a few years away from the petite sizes, I think. They are not very tall for their ages. The I Love Lucy style is what my DD almost 10 loves, but my DD8 1/2 is really fussy about anything like a tie or even a seam around her waist. She would prefer an empire waist or A-line cut, I'm sure. Keep the suggestions coming!

Sophia's Style, an online store, has lots of dresses and many on sale. Your best bet is Bonnie Jean on sale. Other than the numerous sleeveless dresses (which you could pair with a shrug) they are the most modest, dressy dresses I can find.
You could try ebay too, although you are low on time.

our Target here in fl had some pretty, inexpensive white lightweight sweaters that I bought for my two girls. They are perfect for going over sundresses.

I had the best luck last year at Kohl's.. their dresses run in the $70 range BUT they often have them on sale.. I got them 50% off (bought online)
This year I found some lovely dresses at Sears of all places.. (haven't found any there in years)

We ended up heading to Kohls and found two beautiful eyelet dresses for over half off. One is a pink with cap sleeves and the other is a white sleeveless but I told her I would try to crochet a colorful shrug to wear with it, if we couldn't find one. Because they are both eyelet dresses, they kind of feel like they match (which they still love to do sometimes). I am thrilled with the findings, but picking were slim as they say. Everything else was made out of handkerchief weight fabric or was covered in glitter and sparkles. A lot of ruched styles too that reminded me of a dress I wore to a prom in the early 90's! Thanks for all your help. I really didn't expect to find anything in the stores. I will keep those websites in mind as my girls have now reached the squeals-of-excitement-over-new-clothes stage!

So pleased Charlotte! My dd is asking to go to Kohls when I mentioned this. I am hoping her father will take her - I don't think I can clean bathrooms and do stores in one day - way too much penance!!

Along with Hanna's, we've had good luck with younger elem. years and Penney's (usually closer to $45 than $70), and sometimes Land's End, but they seem to have less of the dressy dresses lately...

Charlotte, I am really late on this, but I highly recommend keeping Gymboree and Strasburg Children in mind. Your dd sounds alot like my oldest. I am glad you found some dresses you liked.

We happened to go to Wal-Mart for something else and found one or two racks of nice Easter dresses. All were sleeveless but half came with shrugs. Up to size 16.
