Hello,

I know we've discussed this before, but I couldn't seem
to find it in the archives when I searched...

Where to you all go to find rare or out of print books? I am looking for one that I can't find anywhere. I've tried ebay, half.com, abebooks, and Amazon. Any suggestions?

Christine - I usually just enter the name of the book, author, and anything else specific in a google search and find most of my rare/out of print books that way.

So, for example, you might be looking for a book that is still in print, but you're looking for the out of print published on or before 1942 date - I just put the date in the google search. Or maybe you'd enter unabridged in the search terms.

I've hunted down some very old books this way. I haven't always found them at an affordable price, but I've always found what I'm looking for. And, sometimes, I have to make a list and just keep checking for a few weeks - I might find a book for $100 somewhere - ouch! But, google search a few weeks later and find it for $5 somewhere else. Timing is everything!

If I'm really desperate to find a book, I look overseas at Great Britain's ebay and some of their used/out of print sources.

I use search engines that search all the sites you listed, Christine, except ebay. www.bookfinder.com or www.addall.com, with the former being my favorite.

I use bookfinder too. One other idea if you're after a particular book is Keller Books. They are a very knowledgeable and resourceful Catholic homeschooling family who may be able to help you find what you're looking for.

Ok, so here's what I did so far...
I have tried all the above links - no luck

The only link I got from Google was a link to Marquette University's library. I called the library and could get it on interlibrary loan through my public library. While working things out with my librarian, she told me about Worldcat.org, which will tell you what libraries hold a particular book. Anyway, the book is only in 4 libraries! I did get a copy from an interlibrary loan, as I mentioned. What an awesome service!!!

Anyway, the book is a book of poetry called "Sing a Song of Holy Things" by Sister M. Josita Belger. It was written in 1945. Using the book, I discovered that the author was from a certain convent. I contacted the convent's archivist about whether or not they had a copy available for purchase. The archivist said that they have only one copy in their archives, but she may be able to find another. She'll let me know. WOW!
So that's the story, so far...
