Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you have not been following the whole conscience thing for doctors and other health care, google USCCB conscience protection.

My husband is a Catholic doctor and we are terrified. I am trying not to be scared. Please pray for our family and all Catholic doctors.
Pray for courage, too.

Thank you. I need cyber hand holding right now. I am so scared.

Sarah, Praying.

Also, our bishop listed info in our diocesan paper about the period for public comment which ends April 9. He encouraged all Catholics in this diocese to make our voices heard and gave us all the info about how to comment.

My husband is also a Catholic doctor, Sarah. He has expressed his concerns during the comment period referred to above. We feel that, if positions of conscience are not respected, there will be many Catholic doctors who will no longer be able to practice. We are very concerned also. This is a time to fast and pray that our country will begin to turn back to God and see the absolute necessity of honoring Him by respecting and protecting human life from natural conception to natural death. Things look scary, but we must always trust in God no matter what. This book has greatly helped me trust in God in many difficult circumstances. Keep praying!

I am praying, Sarah! On behalf of all our pro-life physicians and Catholic hospitals, I pray that we have the courage to stand up and say no to the removal of the conscience rights of health care workers!

If you are interested, the Family Research Council has a form letter you can fill out requiring just a bit of personal information - they do all the word parsing for you - that you can then electronically submit to The Department of Health and Human Services.

From Family Research Council:
Quote:
We need you to submit comments to HHS in support of these regulations to enforce current law because groups like Planned Parenthood have supplied thousands of comments to HHS asking them to rescind these pro-conscience regulations.   The deadline for submitting comments is April 9, 2009.

Let us make our voices heard.

Thanks for the links, book request, etc.

Sarah--I too am married to a pro-life doc (and have 5 boys and a girl too). He is Family Practice, Creighton trained but no longer doing deliveries. He and another pro-life doc are opening a new pro-life Catholic clinic that takes no insurance (or federal or state funding). This is a huge undertaking but has been done successfully in the US. Because they are not dependent on government or private insurance they will not have to perform any immoral procedures to get paid.

We of course need to pray for our Cathoic hospitals and physicians but I thought you might find this encouraging that some physicians have successfully found an alternative. Thank you all for your prayers, being a pro-life physician is often tough professionally and the wives could use some tougher skin with it too:)

Another pro-life doc wife here! Praying for our husbands and all healthcare workers. I actually have something about it on our family blog today - including a link that takes you to a site where you can make your thoughts known.
