Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I picked up a CD earlier this week of Children's Irish rhymes and songs. This rhyme was on there and I immediately remembered it from childhood; I still know it by heart:
Ahem, ahem me mother she went to church,
She told me not to play with you because you're in the dirt,
It's not because you're dirty, It's not because you're clean,
It's because you have the Whooping Cough and eat Marger-een (margerine).

Isn't that strange? Does anyone else remember hearing this as a child and/or know what it means?

I was also interested in the Lyrics for Danny Boy. There is a wealth of information on the net about the music (there's even a book in the library!) but I have never been able to find out what the lyrics are based on.

Blessed Lent!

Gwen, my husband just played this for my son! LOL I have no idea what it means, but Patrick gets thinks it's very silly, and enjoys listening to the music.

The one I enjoyed for my kids is the Bing Crosby CD. I get the giggles at the Overalls in Mrs. Murphy's Choweder!
