I was having trouble searching for older answers to this! My oldest will be making his first holy communion this spring. We have a lot of boys to follow, so I want to buy something that will be the "first communion suit."
What do your boys wear?
I was looking at seersucker, but not as many stores are carrying them this year as in the last few years. Then I was thinking seersucker pants and navy jacket? Should he wear a white tie?
It's not often that this mom of boys has to think fashion! Please help!

FYI - It will be a private first communion with his uncle, so I'm not bound by what every other boy will or will not be wearing.

I would go with a dark navy or black jacket and slacks, since they are always appropriate and also would work for funerals, weddings, and other special events. Navy and black suits never go out of style. A white or dark tie would be nice, whatever you like! Again, if finances are tight, a dark tie is more likely to be able to be worn again (and shows fewer spots! )

What I did was get a white dinner jacket for my son to wear with black slacks and a white shirt and colored tie. After his sister getting the whole white dress thing he wanted something white too.

Okay, Jodie. How long did he keep it on, and how long did he keep it white?

He kept it on for Mass and I confiscated it immediately after pictures following Mass
It's tucked into a box hoping that the next boy will be able to wear it
But this year it's the dress I made my oldest girl that will be used for the 3rd time.
I figured I would be making each girl a dress and THEY came to me last year because they wanted my second daughter to be able to wear her sister's dress..
oh gee shucks, you mean, I don't have to find the time and be able to get the stuff to make a new dress.. well if you insist..
And it will fit the 3rd girl as well.

We wear all white suits here in Miami complete with white ties. Very handsome.
BUT I saw really nice seersucker suits at Macy's a few weeks ago. They had a huge selection of those and other suits that were on 40% sale. Maybe you could get lucky and hit a sale
Good Luck

Jodie, your son looks so handsome!!!
So maybe I'll actually leave my house and look at Macy's and/or thrift stores to see what's out there beyond the online shopping world. And I think the navy makes a lot of sense when you think of... well boys... and their innate ability to make things white non-white. So prices may affect color. I may need to go practical.
Thanks for the links Suzanne! They were helpful. I guess I needed to do FHC. I chuckled to see you respond!

We add a very inexpensive boutonniere to my son's jacket to make it just a bit different/special.

My son wore olive green pants, a white button down shirt, black double breasted jacket and a black tie. He asked for something with some blue in it to honor Mary so I made him a white rose boutonniere with a blue ribbon. His was a private First Communion and we had a wedding to attend later that year so I bought him something that could be used for both. He was very handsome but that's just his mama talkin'!

We are having our first "boy one" next month. :) They have told us to have the boys wear dress slacks, a white button up shirt, and a tie. Jackets are optional, and I will probably not get one because my 9yo is extremely hot natured and will sweat like mad and be miserable the whole time. So, I'm thinking navy blue slacks and a nice tie.

My son wore a navy blue suit. It wasn't too expensive at our post exchange. He fancied it up with suspenders; it was so cute.

Our dress code was also dress slacks, white button up shirt, and a tie. Jackets were optional and we opted for a black jacket. Our son was one of the lectors and we wanted him to look especially nice since it was his FHC.

Our DRE insists that each boy must wear a dark SUIT.
An idea I find abhorrent in this economy- that we must buy a suit which will be worn exactly once. Wasteful. I've been scheming though, and my ds will wear blue trousers and his blue blazer. Looks like a suit to me!
Tho in defense of the DRE I have seen suiting at Walmart and the jackets were only 27$. The thrift shops are hit and miss.
