We have a twin size mattress that reeks of urine. The child who sleeps in this bed doesn't seem to mind, but the child who has to share the room certainly does.
Is there any help for this mattress or should I toss it and buy a new one when we move (in a few months)?

Just a suggestion since you're in Texas... if it's hot and dry, put the mattress on a sheet outside and let the sun bleach and deodorize it for you. It's a pain, but the sun is a natural bleacher and deodorizer. I don't how long it would take though.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Maryan. I've done this a few of times. We lay the mattress out on the driveway on a nice, sunny day. I sprinkle it liberally with baking soda. Then, as the sun is going down, I vacuum the baking soda off and we make the bed. We've had lots of accidents...and no smelly beds.

Thanks. Said child is now dragging the mattress to the back yard. I think it will take several days, but it's supposed to be sunny and hot for the rest of the week.

you might also try the stuff made for pet odors.. it's anti-microbial I think.. and it's totally escaping me what it's called. I might put that on the mattress while it's outside since the sun would dry it out after the application.
Febreze might also help.

We scrub mattresses with that issue with Borax and let it sit for a day. Vaccum off. For really icky spots, scrub baking soda into mattress over the spot, and then spritz with vinegar, let air dry.
My dd wet up until this summer. By the time she was 5 I had taught her to get up immediately and sprinkle the spot with Borax. By bedtime, it would be dry and odor free.

This stuff is a bit pricey, but works wonders when used liberally.
